On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea, a solemn reception was held on 10 October 2025 at the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in Berlin.

The International Solidarity Group (ISG) was represented by an activist of the European Executive Committee, accompanied by Mr. Callum Darragh, a British travel vlogger and operator of the YouTube channel Britannica, who regularly reports on the culture and society of the DPR Korea in his media work.

The guests were warmly received by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy Comrade Kim Chol Jun, and by the Counsellor Kim Chol Ung. Following a brief welcoming address, a floral basket was laid beneath the portraits of the Leaders of the DPR Korea, accompanied by other floral tributes from attendees.

Afterwards, Comrade Kim Chol Jun delivered a speech highlighting the historical significance of the Workers’ Party of Korea, its leading role in the socialist construction of the country, and its enduring contribution to national self-determination and social progress. A joint toast followed, after which the buffet was opened, providing an opportunity for informal exchange and networking.

During the reception, lively discussions took place among figures from politics, activism, and business. Attendees included representatives of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), the Korean-German Friendship Association (KDFB), a splinter group of the Korean Friendship Association (KFA), the Anti-Imperialist Platform of Michael Koth, as well as several personalities from the German foreign trade sector.

Also present was Comrade Kim, Director of the airline Air Koryo and of Koreo Travel, with whom initial discussions were held regarding possible cooperation in the fields of tourism organization and public relations.

Participants described the atmosphere as dignified and cordial, marked by a spirit of international friendship and mutual respect. At the conclusion of the event, numerous business cards and contact details were exchanged to facilitate further institutional dialogue. The reception ended at approximately 8:15 p.m., after the guests had expressed their thanks to the hosts.

The International Solidarity Group (ISG) extends its gratitude to the Embassy of the DPR Korea in Berlin for the invitation and regards the event as an expression of genuine friendship and mutual appreciation. The European Executive Committee of the ISG considers participation in this reception an important step in further deepening cultural, media, and social exchange between Europe and the DPR Korea.
