Meeting of Young Vanguards to Adopt Letter of Loyalty to the Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Held; Relay Column Sets Off for Pyongyang

Millions of young people, glorifying the precious names and honors of patriotic youth in the struggle to vigorously open a new era of comprehensive national rejuvenation under the wise leadership of the WPK, respectfully pay the highest tribute to the glorious 80-year history of the Mother Party, which has unfolded the sublime politics of prioritizing youth and built a dignified and powerful youth nation on this land.

Amidst the overflowing faith and will of passionate youth to fully display the spirit and courage of patriotic youth on the solemn journey toward the 9th Party Congress, glorifying the Juche revolutionary cause generation after generation, a meeting of young vanguards to adopt a letter of loyalty to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the WPK was held on the 3rd at the summit of Mt. Paektu, the sacred mountain of revolution.

Attending were Comrade Kim Jong Sun, Department Director of the WPK Central Committee, Comrade Ri Tae Il, Chief Secretary of the Ryanggang Provincial Party Committee, youth league officials, participants in the loyalty letter relay, and young students from Samjiyon City.

At the meeting, Comrade Mun Chol, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, solemnly read the letter of loyalty from young vanguards across the country to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

This was followed by pledge speeches.

The speakers expressed their firm belief that with the respected Comrade Marshal at the helm, the future of our country and revolution is brilliant, and they pledged to become first-line loyalists absolutely upholding and following the work of the WPK.

They stated that they would learn from the indomitable spirit and fighting traits of the previous generation of youth, boldly launch production struggles and economy campaigns at every major front of socialist construction, and vigorously stoke the flames of creating miracles and performing feats.

They mentioned that they would acquire practical knowledge applicable to revolutionary practice, become capable revolutionary talents leading the rejuvenation and development of the country with high skills, and firmly prepare to be true patriots devoting themselves to the country's prosperity.

The speakers expressed their resolutions to step up their pace toward Pyongyang, where the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is, filled with pride and honor to be in the glorious ranks carrying the letter containing the earnest wishes and pledges of loyalty of young vanguards across the country.

At the summit of Mt. Paektu, where the sturdy roots of the Juche revolution took hold and the origin of the Korean revolution began, the young vanguards reaffirmed their firm pledge to follow the path of loyalty to the great Party Central Committee, and their powerful shouts of slogans echoed infinitely across the peaks of Mt. Paektu.

Officials and Leading by Example

The Greatest Power of Influence

Many units are now vigorously waging the struggle for the successful conclusion of the five-year plan and achieving results.

Underpinning these achievements is the devoted work style of officials to powerfully mobilize the masses for the implementation of Party decisions.

This can be seen just by looking at an example from a certain farm.

The high evaluation the farm received at the recent July grass-cutting review was not because its grass-cutting conditions were better than other farms, nor because it had more tractors operational.

The answer to what the reason was lies in the feedback from the farm members.

"The officials took the lead, so we didn't feel the hardship." That's exactly it.

While analyzing the first few days of the grass-cutting process, the farm Party organization discovered the reason why one work team's results were exceptionally high.

It was the work attitude of the managing official in charge of the work team.

He went out to the grass-cutting site early in the morning with his tools, ahead of everyone else, and worked so diligently that it made the primary-level officials of the work team feel embarrassed just standing around.

Since the managing official took the lead from the start, the hands of the primary-level officials and farm members moved faster, ultimately achieving the highest results in the farm.

The Party organization had all the farm officials learn from that official's work attitude and go out to the grass-cutting sites to play a vanguard role.

This fact reminds us once again of a question. In leading the masses, the greatest power of influence is not any high-sounding appeal, but the officials leading by example.

However, as in some units, the phenomenon of officials just holding onto telephones in their offices is not uncommon. In units with such officials, detached from the masses, work cannot possibly proceed properly.

Our Party has consistently emphasized that officials must become locomotives leading the masses at the head of the ranks.

Officials must always reflect on themselves in light of the Party's will.

Where do I stand in the advancing ranks? Am I just paying lip service to leading by example?

The Weight of the Front Ranks

It is the Party's consistent demand that officials carry the front load and lead by example at the head of the ranks.

Then, which officials can bear the weight of that front load?

Let's consider an instructive story told by an official.

It was during a time when discussions were intensifying over the equipment problem necessary for expanding production capacity at a unit.

Several officials gathered around the proposed plans and engaged in heated debate.

It was largely two issues: whether to renovate the old equipment already at the unit or purchase new equipment from elsewhere, and opinions were divided.

Everyone looked to the responsible official's face, but he couldn't easily draw a conclusion. He lacked specialized knowledge. He said he had never blamed himself so much as at that time.

Unable to make a decision, that official spent a considerable period agonizing over a solution, rushing around to related units and scientific research units.

The conclusion reached during that process was to manufacture the equipment incorporating new technology with their own strength.

Ultimately, although somewhat late, by pushing forward with that plan, they were able to secure the crucial guarantee for expanding production capacity.

Everyone was happy, but the official found a serious lesson.

That no matter how high one's resolve, if one's ability doesn't keep up, one cannot bear the weight of the front ranks.

Around us now, there are officials who are leading their unit's development with high ability, while on the other hand, there are also not a few officials who, though they may seem to be sweating and running around diligently, cannot produce clear results due to low ability.

If officials have low ability, they cannot establish their work authority, lose the trust of the masses, and no matter how much they try to lead by example, they will ultimately only be called "diligent good-for-nothings."

Now is a time when we need not officials who trust in old experience and low ability and just run around busily, but officials who constantly learn new things to keep up with the developing reality and strive to raise their ability to the height demanded by the Party.

Officials must reflect once again.

What Was Emphasized in Improving Guidance Methods

In the Work of the Party Committee of the Kyongwon Area Coal Mining Complex

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Going down to teach, help, and guide officials and workers is the basic function of Party organizations and Party officials."

Recently, the Kyongwon Area Coal Mining Complex has been achieving successes. One of the important secrets is that the Complex Party Committee substantively conducted work to improve the guidance methods of Party officials.

Once, at the transport pit of the Kogonwon Coal Mine, a drainage pump broke down, preventing the pumping of water from the face. If measures weren't taken in time, it could cause significant disruption to coal production.

The responsible official of the Complex Party Committee who immediately went down to the site convened a consultative meeting of the relevant officials. However, the Party Committee guidance officer in charge was not seen.

Upon inquiry, it was found that he had gone to the power machinery workshop, saying that to fix the drainage pump, parts needed to be processed first.

The Party responsible official's thoughts were deep. To carry out tasks arising from the coal mines, both economic-practical work and work mobilizing the masses are needed. There are administrative departments in charge of economic-practical work and administrative officials. But if the Party official in charge of a coal mine runs around here and there for processing equipment parts or solving material issues, who guides the work of mobilizing the organization and the masses?

The deviation of not holding one's position and taking over tasks that administrative officials should do was often appearing among some officials newly entered into the ranks of Party officials. This had its cause in the wrong viewpoint of looking at equipment or materials first, not people, in any work.

Finding the problem here, the Party Committee paid particular attention to having guidance officers in charge go down and focus on work with people from their positions.

First, it caused a learning boom among guidance officers in charge to raise their practical level.

Guidance officers in charge were to put main effort into studying the works of the peerless great men related to Party work, and conduct study in various forms and methods to deeply grasp the Juche-based theory and methods of Party work, especially the five major Party building lines of the new era.

In this process, their practical level of Party work became much higher.

It is also noteworthy that the Party Committee had officials at the level of vice-department head and above take guidance officers in charge with them and teach them guidance methods through actual work processes.

Let's look at the fact when the Party responsible official went to the Hoeryong Coal Mine Machinery Plant in May. At that time, he went around with the Party Committee guidance officer in charge of the plant and thoroughly taught various work methods.

That day, the responsible official learned the fact that some Party members were not fully fulfilling their duties in the struggle to implement Party decisions. The important reason was that the relevant Party cell was not substantively conducting work to continue glorifying the honor of the loyal Party cell. He met with the primary Party official and Party cell secretary and emphasized countermeasure issues arising from concretely drawing up and thoroughly executing a supplementary implementation plan to continue glorifying the honor of the loyal Party cell, based on the Party policy presented each period. In this process, the Party cell's guidance over Party members was strengthened, and their vanguard role in the struggle to implement Party decisions became higher.

The process of the Party responsible official's guidance work became a stepping stone in raising the practical ability of the guidance officer in charge.

It is also noteworthy that the Party Committee substantively conducts work to overcome deviations by regularly reviewing and assessing the work situation of guidance officers in charge each month and generalizing experiences.

One can cite the review of the work situation of guidance officers in charge conducted in June as an example.

At that time, the guidance officer in charge who went down to the Ryongbuk Youth Coal Mine grasped the fact, through conversations with workers at the power machinery workshop, that the workshop Party organization was not methodologically conducting work with youth. In the process of the Party Committee regularly reviewing the work situations of guidance officers in charge, encouraging strong points while awakening them to overcome shortcomings, their Party work level and ability became even higher.

The work of this Party Committee shows that when Party organizations and Party officials constantly improve guidance methods with work with people at the center, achievements are made in implementing Party decisions.
