Standing Proudly in the Ranks of the Era The Work of the Primary Party Committee of the Tanchon Smeltery, Gripping the Three Revolutions as a Weapon for Development The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:
The role of primary Party organizations, as political staff headquarters in realizing Party policies, is immensely important. The experience of the Tanchon Smeltery Primary Party Committee, which has vigorously advanced by holding high the banner of the Three Revolutions, is instructive.
Innovative Political Work Cultivates Masters of the Mass Movement Raising officials and workers into socialist individuals with excellent political and moral traits is a priority. The primary Party Committee focused on ensuring maximum effectiveness in every link of political work. Alongside well-organized ideological education bases and regular lectures, visual propaganda has been particularly emphasized. The smeltery’s visual propaganda is already a model for the Tanchon Mining Complex and the province. However, complacency is unacceptable. To meet the Party’s demand for continuously enhancing ideological work’s effectiveness, the Committee selected the electrolysis workshop, a challenging but pivotal production unit, as a model. In a year and a half, visual propaganda materials increased from 500 to over 3,200. The Committee improved the forms of visual materials, ensuring cultural and educational impact. For instance, slogans are artistically displayed on granite structures and building walls, and a nighttime lighting system enhances visibility, transforming the entire smeltery into a massive slogan hub and education site. Not resting on laurels, the Committee explored new forms of political work to raise officials’ and workers’ political, moral, and cultural levels. The mass literary creation movement is one example. Three years ago, the Committee presented the anthology "The Affection Tied with the General Will Last Forever" to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Last year, "The Flames of Tanchon," a collection of 70 poems, lyrics, and essays by smeltery workers, was published. Through this, workers grew ideologically and culturally. However, closer scrutiny revealed that this activity sometimes lacked connection to revolutionary tasks. The Committee then utilized literary works in the smeltery newspaper to enhance ideological work’s impact. For instance, the poem "I Love You, My Factory," a collective work marking the smeltery’s 50th anniversary, deepened workers’ attachment to their workplace. When tasked with constructing housing in Komdok, the Committee directed this work to repay the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un’s great trust. Encouraged by poems and wall newspapers from families and colleagues, workers fully demonstrated the unit’s combat strength in housing construction. The Committee also ensured literary creation’s effectiveness in implementing Party decisions. During a monthly production review, when material shortages threatened the 2024 repair plan, the Committee reminded officials of the wall newspaper "Party Decisions Are Life," urging self-reflection. The materials team, inspired, resolved the issue after the meeting. Without correct methodology, literary creation would have remained mere composition, not the effective political tool it is today. The workers’ transformation into innovators and Three Revolution standard-bearers stems from the primary Party Committee’s pioneering work style, turning every political task into a catalyst for revolutionary and patriotic fervor.
The Role of the Vanguard Is Responsibility and Devotion The 2nd Conference of Primary Party Secretaries emphasized that Party officials must fully shoulder responsibility to splendidly realize the Party’s important decisions. What does this responsibility entail? It is setting a practical example by unconditionally executing Party policies at any cost. The smeltery’s Party officials led workers to success in mastering the pulverized coal ignition technology, overcoming initial skepticism. When workers hesitated, the primary Party secretary convened a meeting, urging: "Reducing import dependence and achieving localization are Party policies. Retreating before difficulties is not a soldier’s way." Guided by officials who worked alongside them day and night, technicians devised a reflective furnace, ultimately succeeding. Similarly, the establishment of a reagent production process using domestic raw materials, raising zinc quality from grade 3 to 1, and producing fiberglass tanks for local factories to support the Party’s regional development policy were all achievements of the officials’ extraordinary responsibility. Being mothers and errand-runners for the masses, responsible for their fate and lives, is the primary Party officials’ unwavering principle. For example, the smeltery’s transport department had a skilled worker who, after a grave mistake, fell into despair. The primary Party secretary persistently educated him, saying: "Trust the Party and work faithfully—this is your new start." The worker, finally unburdening his heart, revived discarded equipment, contributing to normalized production and later becoming a labor innovator and state commendation recipient. Many have been reborn under Party officials’ trusting and just guidance, now standing as Three Revolution standard-bearers. Only officials determined to safeguard people’s political lives can take responsibility for their livelihoods. The Committee asserts that neglecting rear supply bases, which fail to benefit workers, can sever Party-mass ties. The officials’ devotion is evident in the expanded vegetable greenhouses, duck breeding, and fish farms, where production has soared. The newly built "Workers’ Hotel," admired by all, is another testament to their efforts to swiftly elevate workers’ living standards. What underpins this devotion? Primary Party Secretary Hong Jong Guk, who received a commendation from the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un at the 2nd Conference of Primary Party Secretaries, expressed his resolve in eight poems, including "Have I Become Mature Before Mother?" compiled in an anthology presented to the leader. His unwavering devotion earned him the title of Socialist Patriotic Meritorious Person. The foundation of responsibility is relentless study and competence. Years ago, when discussing the material for vertical submerged pumps, officials were stunned when the primary Party secretary suggested lowering carbon content for acid and wear resistance, showcasing his metallurgical knowledge. His motto is: "To answer to the Party for our unit, we must know everything." A social science major, he mastered Party policies, production, management, and rear-support science, enabling correct Party guidance. The smeltery, producing five February 16 Science and Technology Prize winners, has been a model technical innovation unit, a top-10 enterprise for two consecutive years, and recently won the Three Revolutions Red Flag.
Conclusion Raising the masses into ideological stalwarts through highly effective political work and taking infinite responsibility for their fate and lives with exceptional devotion and competence—this is how to place a unit in the ranks of the era. This is the lesson from the Tanchon Smeltery Primary Party Committee’s work. By Kim Hyang Ran

By Ri Sol Min Effective Education Through Party Newspapers The Primary Party Committee of the Jungang Raw Materials Base Enterprise effectively conducts education through Party newspapers. The Committee prioritizes building a technical data base for scientists and researchers, aiding their work. For example, research improving a power plant’s generator efficiency benefited greatly from the electronic library. The National Academy of Sciences’ Power Machinery Research Institute thus enhances electronic library operations to actively contribute to scientific research. By Cho Jong Ho
Party Work Experience Ensuring the Trinity of Party, Administration, and Technology Guaranteeing the trinity of Party, administration, and technology is key to smoothly advancing economic tasks and overall work. Previously, daily discussions among workshop heads, responsible engineers, and officials were often formal. Conflicting schedules sometimes prevented meetings. We changed this by gathering every morning without fail. This ensured punctuality and thorough analysis of previous day’s shortcomings and solutions. For instance, when repairing the No. 1 oxygen furnace’s cooling system, the responsible engineer, after precise calculations, requested additional labor. The workshop head mobilized the pipeline teams, while I emphasized political work with the teams’ Party officials. Workers, inspired, completed the repairs swiftly. Strengthening the trinity overcame shortcomings, invigorating all work. We will continue prioritizing this to ensure complete unity among Party, administrative, and technical officials. No Ready-Made Talent Exists The importance of primary officials in a unit’s progress is clear. Yet, some complain about lacking suitable candidates. But talent is not ready-made—it must be nurtured. Our experience proves this. Take the deputy head of Farm No. 6’s 2nd sub-workteam. Initially, workteam officials saw him as unpromising—rough-edged and past mistakes. One day, troubled by the sub-workteam’s lag, I spoke with farmers and noticed his self-criticism and eagerness to improve. Convinced he could excel with guidance, I urged workteam officials to nurture his strengths. Later appointed sub-workteam head, he led the unit to match others. He even joined the Party ranks. Many such examples exist in the farm. Last year, the farm overfulfilled the state grain plan and conducted early distribution, thanks largely to primary officials. Rural pillars are not found but nurtured—this cannot be overemphasized. By Ryu Song Ryong, Party Secretary of Wolam-ri, Kumchon County
