The Number of Farmworker-University Students Increases Daily

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said as follows:

"In line with the demands of turning all people into scientific and technological talents, agricultural workers should be included in the educational system of learning while working, so that they are prepared as new-era intellectual workers possessing agricultural knowledge and science and technology."

Numerous agricultural workers in various regions are actively participating in the remote education system of learning while working, under the enthusiasm to uphold the Party's wise leadership and vision in opening up a great new era of our style socialist rural development and to fulfill their roles as those responsible for and masters of the rural revolution.

According to an official from the Remote Education Department of Pyongyang Agricultural University, the university currently has over a thousand farmworkers receiving remote education, and the number of applicants is increasing daily. As a result, the number of farmworker entrants this year is 1.5 times that of last year.

In particular, at the Bonghwa Farm in Kangdong County, over 40 people have been included in the remote education system of learning while working this year, with about 30 of them being ordinary farmworkers. Among them are young people who will carry the future of the farm, high-yield farmers with long farming experience, and housewives.

Currently, at this farm, officials are competing to be included in the remote education system, and actively encouraging farmworkers to participate in the remote education system has become a prevailing trend.

One farmworker studying in the remote education system stated that many farmworkers are eagerly hoping to study at university, realizing that without possessing high scientific and technological knowledge in today's knowledge-based economy, they cannot properly fulfill their roles as masters in farming.

This is not just the case at this farm.

Farmworkers from numerous farms, including the Hyongsan Vegetable Farm in Hyongjesan District, are also eagerly participating in the education system of learning while working, with the determination to become high-yield farmers by doing scientific farming in a proper manner.

The number of farmworkers participating in the remote education systems of various local agricultural universities, including Kye Ung Sang Sariwon Agricultural University and Kim Je Won Haeju Agricultural University, is increasing daily.

Having become farmworker-university students with the determination to become intellectual workers possessing modern science and technology and to uphold the Party's new era rural revolution program at the forefront, they strive to acquire advanced scientific farming methods by visiting the agricultural science and technology dissemination room before anyone else after finishing their day's work.

The relevant farms are actively promoting efforts to ensure that farmworkers included in the remote education system achieve success in their studies.

At the Mirim Rice Farm in Sariwon City, where dozens of farmworkers are studying in the remote education system, efforts are being made to ensure learning conditions, and comprehensive evaluation projects are being effectively implemented on various occasions to further encourage their enthusiasm for learning.

The reliable 모습 of farmworker-university students, who are diligently learning and preparing to become intellectual workers regardless of age or experience, allows us to envision a more beautiful and prosperous future for our countryside.

Increasingly Severe Climate Change, Typhoons Causing Severe Damage

Due to the increasingly severe effects of abnormal climate in recent years, natural disasters such as droughts, high temperatures, and floods are occurring in succession all over the world. Unusually concentrated heavy rains in one place and unseasonal heavy snowfalls have become common weather phenomena that anyone living on this planet commonly experiences.

Climate change is literally inflicting disasters all over the world. There is no country or region that is not affected by the damage. Since the beginning of this year, disastrous abnormal climate phenomena have frequently occurred in various parts of the world.

While high temperatures continued in the north, the south suffered from frequent heavy rains.

Storms swept across the American continent, and deadly heat waves scorched the continent's cities.

Many people have died and become climate refugees.

On August 29, the Pakistani Disaster Management Agency announced that over 1.5 million people had been affected by the recent floods.

Since the monsoon season began at the end of June in this country, approximately 1,960 people have been killed or injured.

In particular, the highest number of casualties was recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The number of casualties continues to increase due to the ongoing heavy rains in Niger. As of August 20 this year, 47 people have died and 70 have been injured. Most of the deaths were caused by people being crushed to death in collapsing houses or drowning.

A total of 7,754 households have been affected, and hundreds of livestock have died. Last year, the number of deaths due to heavy rains reached 396, and 158,767 homes were destroyed.

A report published by an international organization warned that the largest-scale risk to occur on a global scale in the next 10 years will be abnormal climate, not armed conflict. It also stated that typhoons, in particular, are causing greater concern as they are exhibiting different patterns from the past in terms of occurrence time and frequency, bringing more severe damage.

In reality, typhoons are occurring more frequently and becoming stronger due to accelerated global warming.

According to data, as sea surface temperatures continue to rise and the amount of water vapor increases rapidly, the formation and development of low-pressure troughs in the ocean are accelerating, ultimately increasing the possibility of typhoons occurring. As a result, experts predict that the size and intensity of typhoons will become even greater.

There is also the view that the power of typhoons has increased by more than 50% compared to 40 years ago, and the maximum wind speed has increased by an average of 7.5%.

Some experts say that the increasing difficulty in accurately predicting the path of typhoons is also one of the reasons why the damage is becoming more severe.

In reality, many countries are suffering great losses every year due to the continuous onslaught of strong typhoons. Recently, there were casualties in the Philippines due to the effects of a typhoon. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of this country reported that floods and landslides caused by the typhoon have increased the number of deaths, and some residents have been swept away by floods or buried in landslides and are missing.

The number of victims nationwide reached approximately 5.3 million, and a great deal of material damage was caused. A state of disaster was declared in 88 cities and municipalities.

Destructive typhoons frequently occur in the waters around the Philippines, causing disasters not only in the Philippines but also in neighboring countries.

The Philippines suffers an average of 20 typhoon damages each year. In November 2013, a super typhoon, recorded as the most destructive in 100 years, swept through the Philippines, completely devastating some areas of the country, leaving approximately 600,000 people homeless and affecting 9.8 million people.

Last year, an unseasonal typhoon struck, causing casualties and destroying numerous homes.

Japan, Taiwan, and other countries and regions have also suffered typhoon damage.

Because typhoons bring great disasters, many countries are nervously watching their movement paths when typhoons occur. Measures such as evacuating people or closing certain areas are being taken before typhoons make landfall.

Experts say that the damage will increase as the intensity of typhoons becomes stronger in the future due to global warming. Therefore, they argue that it is important to be aware of the severity of the aftermath caused by typhoons and to make efforts to minimize the damage.

World Knowledge

The Hundred Years' War

The Hundred Years' War, known in history, refers to the war that took place several times between England and France from 1337 to 1453.

This war was a struggle for dominance between France and England over French territories seized by England, including Normandy and Anjou, and Flanders, the center of wool production.

After the Capetian dynasty in France ended, Philip VI became king. King Edward III of England (grandson of King Philip IV of France) was dissatisfied and demanded that he should ascend the French throne, which became the direct motive for the war.

When France rejected this demand, England used it as an excuse to ally with the cities of Flanders and start the war in 1337. The war was interrupted from time to time and then resumed.

Having occupied Paris, England besieged the city of Orléans in 1428 to seize southern France.

A fierce battle ensued between the two armies.

The broad masses of oppressed people in France voluntarily organized armed groups and rose up in resistance against the invaders.

The courageous struggle of Jeanne d'Arc, a simple rural girl from France, boosted the morale of French soldiers and broke the siege of Orléans by the English army.

Jeanne d'Arc was captured by an allied army of England due to the betrayal of French feudal aristocrats, and was later handed over to the English invading army and massacred.

However, the anti-invasion struggle of the French oppressed masses became even fiercer.

In 1436, the English invading army was driven out of Paris.

In 1453, England surrendered in Bordeaux. France won the Hundred Years' War, and only Calais remained in English hands.

In France, this war promoted feudal centralization.
