Enlarged Meeting of 8th Plenary Meeting of 12th Central Committee of Workers’ Party of Korea Held

The Enlarged Meeting of the 8th Plenary Meeting of the 12th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) was held from June 21 to 23, 2025.

The plenary meeting was convened to review the progress in implementing major policies of the Party and state set forth by the 11th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK, reconfirm the core tasks and direction of struggle for the second half of the year, and discuss strategic adjustments and timely implementation measures for short-, medium-, and long-term economic construction plans.

Attending the meeting were members and alternate members of the Political Bureau Presidium of the WPK Central Committee, members and alternate members of the Political Bureau, and members and alternate members of the WPK Central Committee.

Officials from departments of the Party Central Committee, provincial and central institutions, city and county leadership organs, party secretaries of cities and counties, party and administrative officials of key factories and enterprises, and major commanders of the Korean People’s Army observed the meeting.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un presided over the plenary meeting.

The meeting highly upheld the Party Central Committee’s call to make 2025 a year of decisive significance in fulfilling the grand revolutionary program presented by the 8th Party Congress and a year of miraculous transformation that opens a phase of ascent to a new stage of development. It heard reports on achievements made in socialist construction—politics, economy, culture, science, education, and national defense—during the first half of the year and on the work of Party organizations at all levels.

The Party Central Committee highly evaluated the remarkable results achieved in the struggle to implement major Party and state policies in the first half of the year and the vigorous advance dominating all aspects of socialist construction.

At the plenary meeting, Kim Jong Un delivered an important speech.

In accordance with the principle of actively encouraging achievements and experiences while constantly drawing lessons and solutions to meet the characteristics of the era—where an unprecedented grand struggle is unfolding in terms of the scope, depth, and magnitude of national development goals—and the changing objective situation, the meeting reviewed and approved strategic adjustments to a series of Party and state policy tasks and plans for their timely implementation.

A decision to convene the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, which will become another significant milestone in the history of our Party and revolutionary development, was unanimously adopted. Practical measures for the successful hosting of this historic Party congress were discussed.

The meeting discussed and decided on issues to radically accelerate the revitalization and modernization of key industrial sectors of the people’s economy, which hold a vanguard position in further strengthening the self-reliance and development potential of our national economy and continuously and stably guaranteeing comprehensive prosperity.

The meeting discussed and adopted decisions on essential issues to enhance the combat capability and vitality of primary Party organizations, which hold important positions in the Party’s organizational structure and system, in line with the requirements of the new era Party building line, and to further streamline and refine the work of Party institutions.

Organizational matters were addressed at the plenary meeting.

In line with the fundamental spirit of the plenary meeting—to strive more boldly, substantively, and intensely under unified and highly responsible leadership to thoroughly achieve this year’s goals and thus achieve decisive successes worthy of special mention in the history of the Party and country, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of liberation and the 80th anniversary of Party founding, and in struggle to welcome the 9th Party Congress as a congress of victors and glory—field-specific research and consultative meetings were held over two days under the guidance of members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee to establish precise measures for implementing the second-half plan.

At the 25th Political Bureau Meeting of the 8th Party Central Committee, the draft decision revised and supplemented with constructive and mobilizing opinions from the consultative meetings was deliberated.

The finalized decision was reported to this plenary meeting and adopted with unanimous approval from members of the Party Central Committee.

Through the Enlarged Meeting of the 12th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Party Central Committee, practical measures were discussed and decided to firmly maintain the rising momentum of national development achieved through the spirit of self-reliance and indomitable advance, expand the ideal and solid cornerstone for the comprehensive prosperity of our-style socialism as much as possible, and thus successfully pass an essential milestone in accelerating the advance toward new victories.

The programmatic speech delivered by Comrade Kim Jong Un at the June 2025 Plenary Meeting of the WPK Central Committee and the decisions adopted at the meeting will be published in Party internal documents and distributed to Party organizations at all levels.
