The Respected Comrade General Secretary’s Noble Teachings

The Spirit of Homeland Defense from the 1950s: Ideological and Spiritual Weapon for Glorifying Heroic Korea’s History and Tradition

A revolution that steadfastly inherits great history and tradition through descendants entrusted with the mission of succession is ever-victorious.

The growth and development history of our Republic, embroidered with victory and glory, records in golden letters the heroic feats of the victorious generation who defended the nation’s self-reliant development environment with unyielding homeland defense spirit, thwarted U.S. imperialism’s world domination strategy, and prevented a new world war to safeguard human peace.

Now, we face the task of gloriously inheriting the great victory tradition and heroic spirit created under the outstanding leadership of the Great Leader, making the country defended and built by the forerunners stronger and endlessly prosperous.

Amid today’s general advance to boldly unfold the era of comprehensive national prosperity, entrusted with this sacred historical mission, we must embrace the noble teachings of the respected Comrade General Secretary as absolute truth and a weapon of struggle and life:

The spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s is an ideological and spiritual weapon for glorifying the history and tradition of heroic Korea!

Upholding the sublime meaning in the respected Comrade General Secretary’s teachings, we must firmly grasp the spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s as an immortal banner for our nation’s endless prosperity and vigorously open a great heyday in building a powerful nation.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"The spirit of defending the homeland, forged in flames of war, is the strongest force incomparable to any physical might. It is the most precious legacy our new generation must inherit from the veteran soldiers—masters of ideology and faith."

The past Fatherland Liberation War was an overwhelmingly disproportionate confrontation: The clean army of a nascent state, born just two years prior, fought against Earth’s most brutal U.S. imperialist invasion force and its followers. Yet, our people and KPA soldiers, upholding the Leader’s ideology and leadership with their lives, transformed a fateful era that could have ended in tragedy into one of highest pride. They firmly defended the glorious national title, flag, and Korea’s bright future. Because the homeland defenders of the 1950s raised the honor of victory with their blood, our homeland could display dignity as heroic Korea, and our people gained precious spiritual wealth unattainable in ordinary times or through thousands of books.

The homeland defense spirit displayed by the victorious generation is a precious ideological and spiritual weapon with eternal vitality in the struggle for the steadfast succession and development of the Juche revolutionary cause. With the spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s, our people firmly safeguarded the nation and people’s dignity, sovereignty, and revolutionary gains from imperialists’ constant war threats and ceaseless provocations, powerfully advancing the socialist cause. It is the immortal spirit that eternally strengthens our nation and ennobles our people as great people—a powerful guarantee propelling us to greater victories.

Now, flames of the all-people general advance rage fiercely across the land, hastening the nation’s dynamic advance and leaping toward new civilization and prosperity.

To achieve great victory in today’s advance—gloriously fulfilling the five-year plan set by the 8th Party Congress and successfully concluding the pioneering struggle for comprehensive socialist development—all people must live and fight with the homeland defense spirit created by the victorious generation.

The spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s is the ideological and spiritual source nurturing all people into ardent loyalists sharing ideology, will, and steps with the Party Central Committee.

The core of the victorious generation’s heroic spirit is the spirit of devotedly defending the Leader. The fundamental guarantee of revolutionary victory lies in faithfully upholding the Leader’s ideology and leadership.

In the Fatherland Liberation War—a contest of infantry rifles versus atomic bombs—our Republic could block the military offensive of U.S. imperialism, boasting "world’s strongest," and inscribe an unprecedented heroic myth in national and world revolutionary history because absolute trust in the Leader and boundless loyalty to realizing the Supreme Command’s operational plans were deeply embedded in all people’s hearts as an unshakable creed.

With faith that "the homeland is the bosom of the Great Leader," military miracles were created: Four cannons held off tens of thousands of enemy troops for three days; four torpedo boats sank an enemy cruiser; outdated aircraft shot down U.S. imperialists’ latest jets. The indomitable spirit of KPA soldiers—charging into enemies with their bodies, shouting "Long Live General Kim Il Sung!" even on death’s edge, displaying undying bravery while longing for the Supreme Command—was the source of miracles birthing world-startling victory myths.

Today, under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade General Secretary, our people are pioneering an upward phase toward a new stage of development. Challenges and obstacles on the path are formidable; countless hurdles await. Yet we possess the strength to smash all difficulties. The spirit of devotedly defending the Leader, displayed by the victorious generation at life-and-death moments, is the force that reversed a period of severe trials into one of great upsurge, propelling our revolution toward continuous leaps. It is the driving force hastening a brilliant future.

"The Party Central Committee’s conception and resolution are science, practice, and victory"—this is the unshakable will our people hold. When all people steadfastly inherit the noble spirit of the victorious generation—faithfully upholding the Leader’s ideology, orders, and instructions with devoted practice—as ideological lineage, our homeland will grow stronger, and its absolute dignity will shine brighter on the century’s podium.

The spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s nurtures all people into true patriots opening the new era of comprehensive national rejuvenation.

For our people, who endured colonial slavery under contempt and disdain after liberation, bearing the sorrow of a lost nation, nothing was more precious than the noble honor of being masters of the new country, factories, and land. All built with their sweat and passion were absolutely inviolable treasures. Thus, KPA soldiers spared no precious life—pouring even a sip of water on fir trees on scorched battlefields, shouting "The homeland’s high ground is my high ground!"—defending every inch of land. Rear-area people rose in an all-people struggle: women’s volunteer corps movement, wartime production drive, high-yield movement. Today’s happy life, genuine system, beautiful mountains and rivers, vast fields, and precious natural resources cannot be conceived apart from the victorious generation’s feats defending the Republic with ardent love for the homeland and mass heroism.

Now, our socialist construction has moved beyond the stage of preserving itself, entering a new high stage demanding innovative changes and exceptional growth speeds in all fields. Today’s true patriot internalizes fiery love for the homeland and collectivist spirit, dedicating sweat and passion to the struggle creating great history for a prosperous powerful nation.

Hearts united in patriotism create immense power. When all people are solidly armed with the spirit of homeland defense from the 1950s and pour their souls into every creation, the steps to great transformation are firmly built, and change and innovation are achieved multi-dimensionally, three-dimensionally, and offensively across the entire space of socialist construction.

All officials, Party members, and workers must take the noble teachings of the respected Comrade General Secretary as their motto in life and struggle, inherit the spirit of the victorious generation, strive more boldly, substantively, and intensely, and continue writing heroic Korea’s epic.

No Erasure: Forging Impeccable Class Consciousness

One day in July 2015.

Visiting the Sinchon Class Education Museum, splendidly risen as a base for anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. and class education, the respected Comrade General Secretary said that the museum’s new rise powerfully demonstrates our people and KPA soldiers’ indomitable spirit to eternally glorify the great victory history and tradition in the anti-U.S. showdown under the Party’s leadership.

Later, while touring exhibition halls, the respected Comrade entered one room. Seeing a diorama recreating U.S. imperialism’s brutal massacre, the respected Comrade stated: "No matter how viciously U.S. imperialism schemes under the guise of 'human rights advocacy,' the history of its crimes on this land can never be erased."

Then, the Comrade’s resolute voice echoed through the exhibition hall:

"The atrocities of U.S. imperialism cannot be whitewashed; they will remain forever in the memory of our people."

The words profoundly stirred the hearts of officials.

Indeed, no matter how time passes or revolutionary generations change a hundred times over, the eternal crimes of U.S. imperialist beasts against our people can never be erased or forgotten.

On this day, the respected Comrade General Secretary emphasized that U.S. imperialism—the root of aggression born of invasion, fattened by plunder—will never change its aggressive nature and brutality. "Harboring even a hair’s breadth of illusion about the enemy means death—this is the bloody lesson of Sinchon."

Engraving the respected Comrade’s teachings that deepen anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. class consciousness a hundredfold alongside Sinchon’s bloody lesson, officials further hardened their iron resolve to settle accounts with U.S. imperialism—our people’s sworn enemy.

Spy Ship Tethered to the Pothong Riverbank

In September 2012, the respected Comrade General Secretary visited the site to confirm the location for the newly constructed Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum.

That day, the Comrade instructed that weapons from the meritorious and captured weapon halls of the current museum should be displayed outdoors at the new museum, directly selecting their placement.

Officials’ hearts burned with passion, embracing the respected Comrade General Secretary’s lofty intention to splendidly build the museum as a victory hall propagating the Great Leader’s immortal achievements, a base for anti-imperialist education, and a center for victory tradition education.

Continuing, the respected Comrade taught: "The Pothong River section displaying captured weapons should exhibit the 'Pueblo' ship. Currently displayed on the Taedong River, exhibiting it alongside captured weapons from the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum will enhance its significance."

All officials marveled. Displaying the U.S. armed spy ship "Pueblo" by the Pothong River would heighten the anti-U.S. educational character of the museum and vividly expose U.S. imperialism’s aggressive nature through tangible evidence.

Thus, the U.S. armed spy ship "Pueblo" was relocated from the Taedong River to the Pothong River.

Today, our people and new generation gaze upon the tethered spy ship, sharpening impeccable class consciousness.

Deeply engraving history’s iron truth: "Just as a wolf cannot become a lamb, U.S. imperialism’s aggressive nature will never change."

Crimson Sunset Over Sokbak Mountain

Sunset burns over Sokbak Mountain’s horizon.
The more we gaze, the more solemn our hearts become.

In the crimson glow, the figures of the victorious generation seem to emerge—those who fought without sparing youth or life for the Party, Leader, homeland, and people during the Fatherland Liberation War.

Our victorious generation, unhesitatingly advancing to the final decisive battle to keep their pledge to the Great Leader, displaying undying bravery even on death’s edge while envisioning the Supreme Command—how could we conceive of today’s happy life apart from their shed blood and sweat, their great spirit, and soldiers’ sublime sacrifice?

Last July, visiting the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery, the respected Comrade General Secretary passionately stated: "Because of the immortal July 27 raised by the great victorious generation, who dedicated everything precious, we have today’s socialist Korea, shining as the most dignified, independent, and invincible powerful nation." "When the victorious generation’s staunch spirit of defending the homeland and revolution is unfailingly inherited as our state and people’s unique irresistible force, our socialism will triumph forever."

Today, Sokbak Mountain’s crimson sunset still engraves this lesson upon the descendants:

Live as worthy descendants of the victorious generation. Inherit firmly the great spirit of defending the homeland displayed by the war heroes. Guard our country, our homeland, as an impregnable iron fortress so no aggressor dares covet it.

"I Will Live Worthily Before the Call 'Victorious Generation'"

I am 92 years old this year.
Neighbors affectionately call me "war veteran grandmother." Though familiar now, each time I hear it, its meaning feels new.

War veteran grandmother—
Within this call lies the grateful Party’s love, holding us war veterans high as models for the new generation to emulate as homeland defenders, and our people’s fervent wish for our lasting health.

Even now, it seems the respected Comrade General Secretary’s affectionate voice rings clearly in my ears—spoken from the high podium of the 7th National Meeting of War Veterans: "Simply seeing our veteran comrades seated healthy is an infinite strength and great encouragement to our Party and people."

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Our war veterans are witnesses embodying heroic Korea’s might and victorious history. Alongside the names of the Great Leaders, they are the nation’s precious treasures, invaluable beyond gold, silver, or jewels."

I am one of the nurses who, at 18—the flower of youth—volunteered for the front during the last Fatherland Liberation War, carrying and treating wounded soldiers on battle heights.

Even past 90, the war days vividly return—threading through enemy bombardment and machine-gun fire like hailstones. Back then, everyone fought like that; it was simply duty. Yet the Party endlessly honors us war veterans as the nation’s precious treasures, invaluable beyond jewels.

Three years ago, attending the 8th National Meeting of War Veterans, sharing space with the respected Comrade General Secretary, and taking a glorious commemorative photo before the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Monument—that day remains vivid.

That day, the respected Comrade General Secretary passionately stated: "All that is precious in dignified socialist Korea is intrinsically linked to the immortal feats of the 1950s homeland defenders." "The source of our homeland’s ever-victorious, invincible nature lies here—where the victorious generation’s noble ideological and spiritual wealth becomes the flesh and blood of descendants, the nutrient of true life and struggle."

As the respected Comrade General Secretary warmly waved back to our rapturous cheers, faces beaming, embracing war veterans in love’s bosom, tears streamed down attendees’ faces.

That day, the respected Comrade General Secretary expressed iron resolve: "To build this land—defended at the cost of lives by the victorious generation, bearing lifelong loyal footprints of patriotism—into a powerful, endlessly prosperous socialist paradise where all people enjoy happiness without envy."

Then I shouted "Long live!" with all my voice, feeling as if I monopolized the world’s bliss—but why couldn’t the words flow properly? Truly, overwhelming emotion chokes speech.

The love and care bestowed upon us war veterans by the respected Comrade General Secretary are beyond full recounting.

Last year, marking the significant Victory Day, the respected Comrade General Secretary sent affectionate gifts to war veterans nationwide and personally attended a reunion with the victorious generation. Then we were sent again to the Yangdok Hot Spring Cultural Resort.

Truly, while war veterans exist worldwide, where else are there blessed souls like us, embraced in the bosom of a peerless great man?

The immense affection the respected Comrade General Secretary bestows upon us war veterans contains sublime intention and great expectation: to live lives shining as excellent teachers and educators implanting the spirit of defending the homeland and revolution—cherished by war’s heroic soldiers—in the hearts of descendants.

Henceforth, to live worthily before the call "victorious generation," I will dedicate my remaining life to implanting the victorious generation’s noble spirit in descendants.
