Let Us Possess the Ability Required by the Educational Revolution As society progresses, the demand for the qualitative level of talents is increasing daily. Hence, reality urgently raises the issue of cultivating the abilities of teachers, the direct undertakers of educational work. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said as follows: "Ability is the fundamental asset of teachers who nurture students into the pillars of the country." Recently, the Party has been emphasizing the issue of enhancing the qualifications, abilities, and expertise of teachers as important. Enhancing the qualifications, abilities, and expertise of teachers means continuously raising the professional level of their knowledge, skills, and application and creative abilities so that our education can quickly be elevated to an advanced standard. Enhancing the qualifications, abilities, and expertise of teachers becomes a fundamental guarantee enabling teachers to fulfill their responsibilities and roles in carrying out the educational revolution, and a shortcut to quickly elevating our education to an advanced standard. The reality where the scientific and theoretical level of education is constantly rising and modern scientific and technological achievements, including artificial intelligence technology, are being widely introduced into teaching, demands that teachers continuously acquire new knowledge and possess the ability to pioneer the path of innovation and development through ceaseless creation. Even to successfully implement the new educational program to be enforced from next year in the general education sector, or to substantially execute the newly organized departmental educational programs in universities and innovate the teaching management system, the ability of teachers must be supported. In short, the ability of teachers is the basic guarantee for successfully carrying out the educational revolution. To enhance the ability of teachers, above all, continued great effort must be put into raising the qualitative level of teacher education. Universities in the teacher training sector must clearly set the goals of teacher education, thoroughly subordinate the improvement of educational structure, content, and methods to enhancing student ability, and train many educational talents with the qualifications, abilities, and expertise of teachers from the teacher education stage. Strengthening the teacher re-education system is also important. A correct methodology for teacher qualification standards and teacher qualification evaluation must be established, and the teacher re-education system must be strengthened to continuously enhance the qualifications of teachers. In particular, the content, form, and methods of teacher re-education must be constantly improved. Today, as work to reduce the regional disparities in education levels nationwide is unfolding more broadly and deeply, the role of teacher re-education units at all levels is becoming more prominent. Especially, city and county teacher re-education institutes must, based on concrete analysis of the actual conditions of rural schools, exert efforts to raise the professional qualifications and educational practical qualifications of teachers to the level of urban school teachers in a short period, using correct methodologies. Ensuring that a large amount of advanced teaching resources reach teachers in local and rural areas is one of the important issues in solving the teacher problem. Centered on the Central Education Information Center, the provincial education support program centers established in each province must realize the scientificization, diversification, and standardization of teaching resources, and invigorate the production, construction, and distribution of teaching resources to aid in the improvement of teachers' abilities. In particular, multimedia editing materials and practical class editing materials according to school type, grade, and subject must be loaded onto the educational sector exclusive network so that even schools in rural and mountainous areas can actively utilize excellent teaching resources. The role of the relevant local workers must be decisively enhanced in ensuring that advanced teaching resources reach teachers in local and rural areas. Local workers and educational guidance agency workers must strengthen policy and technical guidance for rural schools and establish decisive measures to ensure the smooth distribution of abundant teaching resources. In carrying out the educational revolution of the new century, what our Party believes and relies on is the ability of teachers and the high sense of responsibility they hold before the country and posterity. An educator must, of course, devote all their heart and soul to perfectly possess the qualities of an undertaker of educational work. Today, as perspectives and evaluations of talent are changing, teachers must set higher goals, constantly acquire new knowledge and new methods, and always be enthusiasts wholly devoted to improving their ability, true patriots. The teaching circles of today are calling for capable educational talents who can nurture posterity into substantial fruits. All teachers must always be aware of the great expectations and trust of the Party, firmly acquire the qualities demanded by the educational revolution, and thus glorify the sacred teaching circles with high ability. Correspondent Active Efforts to Strengthen the Educational Foundation National University Scientific Research Achievements Exhibition Held Amid the activization of work to strengthen the educational foundation of universities, the 12th National University Scientific Research Achievements Exhibition was held recently. To Raise the Level of Informatization This year, in Potonggang District, support work for educational units within the district was actively conducted to further raise the level of informatization and modernization of education. The district, which had already provided high-performance server computers to all educational units from kindergarten to middle school to enable wide use of the educational sector exclusive network, made great efforts by actively mobilizing sponsoring organizations to resolve educational equipment. Responsible workers of the district took the lead in providing necessary information equipment and appliances to their assigned units, concretely ascertaining their installation and usage status, and establishing appropriate measures. Inspired by the responsible workers' leading by example, workers of sponsoring organizations within the district supported educational equipment to their assigned schools not only during school support months but also at any time, thereby further strengthening the material and technical foundation for realizing the informatization and modernization of educational units. Now, teachers and instructors within the district, actively utilizing information equipment, are striving more vigorously to acquire excellent teaching resources and implement them in teaching work. Photo by Correspondent Choe Chung Song A Problem Grasped in Quality Improvement The Hepatology Department of the Pyongyang Medical University Hospital prides itself as a collective of experts and degree holders in its specialized field. In recent years as well, it has achieved medical scientific and technological accomplishments of national significance and made clear progress in treatment. We found the secret to this in their quality improvement work. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said as follows: "The public health sector must also do well the work of raising the quality of medical service for the people." First, primary effort was put into actively conducting technical training and experience exchange work among medical workers. Based on establishing realistic quality improvement plans, the department has made it a routine to substantially conduct scientific and technological study for over two hours each time, utilizing spare time and evening hours. Specifically, first, among medical workers, research and discussion on treatment methods that can raise treatment efficiency and shorten the period are deepened, and based on synthesizing these, the content to be studied the following week is selected. Also, for each doctor, study tasks including book translation were clearly given, and presenting views on the relevant content and creative opinions together was reflected in the study plan. Next, measures to actively utilize them in clinical practice through departmental discussion were meticulously established. The quality improvement work conducted according to these concrete plans heightened the study fervor and competition fervor within the department and enabled the clinical skill level of medical workers to be significantly raised. The weekly conducted quality improvement summary work is also instructive. To fully ensure hospital-wide ability assessment, the department itself substantially conducts quality improvement summary work. Here, it was good that the evaluation criteria were subdivided and the summary and evaluation methods were well applied to ensure fairness while also providing stimulation to medical workers. Also, focus was placed on raising foreign language ability and practical skill by one stage and cultivating the ability to promptly and skillfully handle emergency situations that may arise. For example, evaluation of doctors' study status was done based on their performance of the quality improvement plan, while also being directed to actively develop creativity. The summary status was normally communicated through various channels, making it so that doctors could not get by without improving their ability. Thus, the purpose-oriented quality improvement work further heightened the study fervor and brought clear results in medical service work as well. The reason why scientific and technological achievements of great significance in clinical practice have been made among the department's young medical workers, including Comrades Ri Hyok and Yang Song Hui, and why the department, which mostly handles emergency patients or severe and critical patients, is evaluated by the people as a medical collective of high ability lies here. Kim Byol Hae Denunciation of Japan's Moves for Militarist Revival A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Japan's moves for militarist revival at a press conference on the 10th. He condemned that Japan has not thoroughly reflected on the war of aggression since World War II, beautified its history of aggression through acts such as numerous prime ministers and other political figures paying homage at the Yasukuni Shrine where the tablets of Class-A war criminals are enshrined, and is enthusiastically pushing for revision of the "Peace Constitution" while improving its "counterstrike capability." He said Japanese militarism has never been thoroughly liquidated and has been constantly stirring, dreaming of revival. China calls upon all peace-loving countries to heighten vigilance against any dangerous moves to revive Japanese militarism and to stop them, he stressed. Condemnation of Israel's Violation of Purification Agreement The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement on the 9th denouncing Israel's violation of the purification agreement. The statement exposed and condemned that Israel is strictly limiting the inflow of humanitarian aid materials into the Gaza Strip by closing the Rafah border crossing, creating obstacles to vehicle traffic providing tents and aid materials to refugees, and continuing slaughter. Mentioning that recently Israel has drawn a "yellow line" in the Gaza Strip and claims it as a "border line," the statement clarified that this shows Israel is not complying with the purification agreement. The statement emphasized that Israel's act of destroying the homes of Palestinians inside the "yellow line" is no different from continuing military operations that have been prohibited since the first day the agreement took effect. U.S. Military Fighter Jets Intrude into Venezuelan Airspace U.S. military fighter jets intruded into Venezuelan airspace on the 9th. On that day, two F-18 fighter jets circled over Venezuelan airspace at an altitude of about 7,620 meters for nearly 40 minutes, creating a menacing atmosphere. Previously, in October last, five U.S. military fighter jets intruded into the airspace over the coastal area of this country. The U.S. provocative act of violating Venezuelan airspace is evoking protest and denunciation from the international community. Israel's Vicious Moves to Expand Settlements Israel continues to rage with moves to expand Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory. The Zionist regime approved a plan on the 10th to construct over 760 homes in three settlements in the West Bank. Thus, in the West Bank, construction of about 51,370 Jewish homes since 2022 will be forcibly carried out under the approval of the Israeli authorities. The country's mass media reported this on the 10th. Anti-People Society Where the Rich-Poor Gap Widens Further In capitalist countries, the rich-poor gap is becoming more extreme. Exploitation and discrimination against the poor, and protection and preferential treatment for the rich are the fundamental reasons. Looking at the U.S. alone, as of June 30, 2024, the top 10% of households in the wealth ranking possessed 67% of the total wealth of all households, while the bottom 50% of households possessed a mere 2.5%. As prices continue to rise, many people are burdened with more debt than at any previous time. Low-income households have no choice but to drastically reduce expenditure for purchasing consumer goods. 13.8 million children are living in households that cannot properly guarantee three meals a day. Foreign press comment that the U.S. has already split into "two Americas": an extreme minority of the wealthy class and the absolute majority of the middle and lower classes. It is only natural that epithets expressing the opposite meaning are attached to the U.S., which advertises itself as a "model of modern civilization" and a "society of equality for all people": a specimen of extreme liberalism and barbaric capitalism, the country with the most severe rich-poor gap among Western countries and where this has become a long-term trend, a developed country where countless people are in a state of hunger. Meanwhile, according to a public opinion survey on child poverty, etc., conducted by an international organization, in Japan, many poor families are suffering great pain due to the enormous costs of educating their children from elementary school through high school. The housing problem is one of the most serious problems in capitalist countries. This is because an ordinary worker would have to put all the money earned over decades without eating or wearing anything to secure a single proper house. Hence, there are countless people living in non-houses made of vinyl sheets or cardboard boxes, spending their days in subway stations, basements, or on the streets, or people who are evicted for failing to pay rent. Even public servants are falling into homelessness overnight. While a handful of the rich are building luxurious houses and villas here and there and swaggering about, the absolute majority of workers cannot even think of securing their own house due to housing prices that soar sky-high without knowing how high. Being able to live in a rented house is considered fortunate. Last year in the U.S., the number of homeless people increased by 18.1% compared to 2023. Moreover, as judicial authorities made decisions approving the application of fines or arrest and imprisonment to homeless people, their situation became more miserable. In Los Angeles, the possibility of homeless people being arrested is 76 times higher, and the possibility of being imprisoned is 27 times higher than that of people with homes. It is not only the U.S. In Japan's capital region, the average price per unit of newly built apartments has been renewing the highest record for several consecutive years. In central Tokyo, the average housing price has exceeded 100 million yen. In the Netherlands as well, housing prices are continuously rising, setting new records. The rich-poor gap is also clearly revealed in the healthcare sector. In the U.S., the average per capita medical expenditure has increased by nearly twofold compared to 2000. Due to lack of basic healthcare conditions and the burden of enormous medical expenses, etc., 35% of adults are suffering in pain without receiving or giving up treatment. Many middle- and low-income patients have seen their families ruined due to medical expenses. According to a report released by an organization, the U.S. is the country with the highest burden of medical expenses for its people, while having the lowest average life expectancy. Such a society where even the most basic human rights are not guaranteed, a society where the rich become richer and the poor inevitably become poorer day by day, is precisely capitalism. [Korean Central News Agency] Common Knowledge Antioxidants Good for Eye Protection The human eye is one of the major organs that senses much from the surrounding world. To keep the eyes healthy and prevent eye diseases, meals should include foods containing antioxidants. According to research, what helps lower the risk of eye disease occurrence are zinc, vitamin E, vitamin C, and lutein and zeaxanthin. Most useful substances can be ingested through food. - Zinc Strengthens eye tissue and alleviates the worsening process of various eye diseases. The allowable daily intake is 40-80 mg. Zinc is found in meat, seafood, vegetables, legumes, mushrooms, spinach, seeds, nuts, etc. - Zeaxanthin and Lutein Carotenoids with strong antioxidant effects, they prevent damage to retinal receptors due to their ability to filter blue light. Zeaxanthin and lutein are found in eggs, peppers, and leafy vegetables. The daily standard intake is 30-40 mg. - Vitamin E and Vitamin C Possess antioxidant properties and participate in the synthesis of collagen and structural proteins. Vitamin E, as a fat-soluble vitamin, prevents retinal damage caused by free radicals. The recommended daily intake is 10 mg. Vitamin C cannot be synthesized by the human body itself. Therefore, meals must include foods containing vitamin C (fresh vegetables and fruits). A reasonable daily intake is 90 mg. A balanced diet mindful of consuming foods containing antioxidants not only improves eyesight but also helps strengthen the body overall. It is also important for preventing eye diseases. To this end, the eyes should be given normal "rest" (20 seconds each time at 20-minute intervals), and timely visits to a doctor for examination should be made. | |
