On this 80th anniversary of liberation, the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) extends the highest reverence to the Great Leader Kim Il Sung, who led the anti-Japanese war to victory and laid the foundation for Korea’s eternal prosperity. We offer our deepest loyalty to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, Marshal who defends and glorifies the legacy of our great leaders. Eighty years ago, the fervor of liberation shook our homeland and echoed through coal mines, factories, and labor sites abroad. Compatriots in Japan marched across this foreign land, chanting "Long Live Liberation!" in tears of joy. For 80 years since that historic day, Chongryon officials and compatriots have deeply reflected on how August 15—when the Great Leader, at just 14 years old, embarked on the revolutionary path to reclaim Korea through ingenious guerrilla tactics—became a monumental turning point in our destiny. Great Leader Kim Il Sung, founder of socialist Korea, was a giant of ideology who created the immortal Juche idea, set modern history on the track of independence, and forged our Republic into a powerhouse of self-reliance amid imperialist storms. The Fatherly Leader, standing at the forefront of world politics with extraordinary foresight, led the Korean revolution and the global cause of independence to victory, achieving feats unparalleled in history. He remains the supreme leader of the 20th century—the eternal Sun of Juche. This year, as Chongryon marks its 70th founding anniversary, Liberation Day rekindles profound reverence for the Great Leader Kim Il Sung, founding father of Chongryon and legendary hero of our people. The Fatherly Leader liberated compatriots from Japan’s colonial yoke, granting them the dignity of overseas citizens of an independent nation. His wise leadership rescued the movement of Koreans in Japan from crisis and anchored it firmly to Juche. At every stage of our movement, the Great Leader illuminated Chongryon’s path, embracing officials, entrepreneurs, youth, and students with paternal love. He is the benefactor and eternal father of Koreans in Japan. The legacy of the Great Leader shines brighter today under the guidance of another peerless hero—the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. With iron resolve to build Korea into the world’s strongest nation, the Marshal has ushered in an era of national dignity and prosperity: the age of "Korea First." Despite his tireless efforts to conclude the final year of the five-year plan set by the 8th Party Congress, the respected Marshal bestowed upon Chongryon—a treasured asset of Juche Korea—a programmatic letter, "Let Us Write a New Glorious History of the Movement of Koreans in Japan by Inheriting the Patriotic Spirit of the Founding Generation." His boundless love and trust embrace all compatriots as kin sharing the bloodline of the motherland. For 80 years since liberation, we have held unwavering conviction: The might of our invincible homeland and Chongryon’s patriotic cause exist solely because we uphold the Great Leader. We pledge eternal loyalty to the Great Leader Kim Il Sung, liberator of Korea, and the Great Leader Kim Jong Il, architect of our prosperous nation—both eternal Suns of Juche. Their legacies will shine forever through generations. Attendees included friendship organizations from Denmark, Germany, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Sweden, U.K., Iceland, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, and beyond. After reading congratulatory letters, the seminar opened with a keynote by the chair of the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association (Europe Committee chair). Had Korea abandoned self-reliance under pressure, neither its socialist system nor its national sovereignty would have survived global socialism’s collapse. Rooted in Juche, self-reliance is Korea’s proud tradition, eternal banner, lifeblood, and dignity. Under the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, Korea advances vigorously, strengthening defense and socialism while astonishing the world. Self-reliance, proven throughout history, will propel Korea’s glorious future. Subsequent speakers—including chairs of U.K. and Switzerland-Korea friendship committees—praised President Kim Il Sung’s lifelong dedication to independence. They noted his creation of Juche ideology, liberation of Korea, and leadership in postwar rebuilding. President Kim Il Sung pioneered the era of independence; his Juche ideology, upheld by Leader Kim Jong Il and Comrade Kim Jong Un, shines today as Korea’s eternal guiding thought. Korea’s unwavering self-reliance spirit, they stressed, is unbreakable and will lead to a brilliant future. The seminar adopted a congratulatory message to the respected General Secretary and issued an appeal to world progressives for the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) founding: The appeal noted that progressives worldwide will soon celebrate the 80th anniversary of the WPK, which has led Korea’s uninterrupted socialist victories. Since its founding on October 10, 1945, the WPK has served the people as its core tenet, building a powerful socialist state. Amid imperialist aggression, Korea enjoys stability and happiness under the WPK’s leadership. As the great party of the independent era, the WPK is a beacon of hope for humanity.
