Kim Il Sung University has developed in its own way advanced heat treatment technology urgently needed in the machine industry sector.

This technology, called the dual-frequency induction heating quenching method, unlike the conventional induction heating quenching method that uses medium-frequency current or high-frequency current, is an induction heating quenching technology that uses both medium-frequency and high-frequency currents of different frequencies in one inductor.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said as follows:

"Kim Il Sung University must vigorously conduct scientific research work and become a pacesetter in realizing the integration of education, scientific research and production."

This newly developed heat treatment technology is a scientific and technological achievement made by scientists of the Department of Aerospace Science of Kim Il Sung University in the course of carrying out this year's national key project for scientific and technological development.

It is said that with this technology, the surface heat treatment of machine or instrument parts with complex shapes like gears can be done uniformly, and their quality can be significantly improved without using expensive alloy steel materials.

Upholding the lofty intention of the Party, scientists of the metallic materials research group, including researcher Choe Kum Song, and doctoral students set a bold and high goal to develop new heat treatment technology of great practical benefit in a short period, based on concrete study of reality and in-depth investigation and analysis of worldwide development trends.

The research group deepened literature study, basic research and simulation experiments while pooling their strength and wisdom, went to several units to creatively cooperate with technicians and workers, and successfully conducted dozens of on-site tests. In this process, they solved various scientific and technological problems arising in developing and introducing advanced heat treatment technology.

It is said that by adopting the new heat treatment technology, high-quality gears can be produced as much as desired using ordinary carbon steel without using expensive alloy steel materials for gears.

On the other hand, compared to the carburizing quenching method previously used for gear finishing heat treatment, production cost can be reduced to 1/2, electricity consumption to less than 1/30, and labor to about 1/10, while productivity can be increased more than twofold, and it is said to have received high praise from the on-site working class particularly because it causes no environmental pollution.
