In Search of Forerunners of Production Increase
They Make Bold Decisions and Persevere in Implementation

Kim Jong Un said as follows:
"It is the fighting tradition and trait of our people to rise up as one mind and will at the Party's call and continuously create miracles of moving mountains and reclaiming seas."
A fierce flame of production increase is raging at the Chonnaeri Cement Plant.
The officials and working class here, who are continuously challenging limits and recording high cement production achievements, are determined to complete this year's national economic plan ahead of schedule and continue to heighten the breath of advance.
The officials and working class of the Chonnaeri Cement Plant, who are powerfully accelerating the march towards the glorious Party Congress by creating new standards and new records, evoke ardent sympathy for their revolutionary spirit of seeing any task through to the end by making bold decisions and persevering in implementation.
One day last May, the officials and workers of the plant gathered together.
If they proceeded with the repair of the kiln after waiting for the kiln body to cool down completely as in the past period, they had to take 48 hours away from production; they could not just cling to past experiences while chanting old惯例 (conventions). For them, time was cement.
Eventually, the plant's officials agreed to proceed with the repair work just 12 hours after erecting the kiln, as proposed by the workers of the sintering workshop. Of course, that was insufficient time for the kiln to cool completely.
Therefore, some people could not readily agree, saying that starting a major repair before the sintering kiln had fully cooled was beyond common sense.
But the plant's officials and working class could not retreat.
It was everyone's unanimous will that they must win time by making bold decisions and persevering in implementation, not by adapting to conditions and environment, in order to fulfill the production increase task pledged before the Party.
The major repair work on the sintering kiln began thus. Amid the resounding drums of the agitation campaign that stirred the site, officials and workers entered the major repair of the sintering kiln. Working under unfavorable conditions was truly difficult. However, the major repair site, where all officials and workers pressed ahead with their work sharing a single orientation, literally boiled over with heat hotter than fire. Workers of the sintering workshop continued their shifts without stopping the work of laying refractory bricks.
Workers from other workshops and workteams also actively assisted in the kiln repair, displaying the collectivist spirit of mutual help and guidance. The plant staff headquarters devised ways to carry out the work safely even though the kiln body had not fully cooled, thus boosting the workers' fighting morale. Within such atmosphere, the major repair of the sintering kiln was concluded far ahead of schedule.
The boldness and tenacity of the working class here, who do not wish to waste a single moment on the path of implementing Party decisions, made the impossible possible.
In today's era of science and technology, new innovations cannot be created by mere determination and experience alone. No matter how high one's resolve and persevering will, it is today's reality that one cannot stand in the ranks of the times without relying on the power of science and technology.
This is also evident in the process of introducing a new method of sintering kiln operation technology at the plant.
The introduction of this technology, which is crucial for decisively increasing clinker production, was not something to be decided lightly. A misstep could have led to physical damage to the sintering kiln.
Therefore, when the workers of the sintering workteam proposed this, some people shook their heads in doubt. They thought it might be a case of losing everything by trusting them and starting a task recklessly.
At that time, the workers of the sintering workteam, including Comrade Han Jin Sok, expressed their feelings as follows:
Technological innovation is not something done only by those with high skills. As the saying goes, you know if it's long or short only by comparing; we, who know the field like the palm of our hands, can even come up with ideas and discoveries that technicians hadn't thought of. Trust us and boldly entrust us with the technological innovation tasks.
From the next day, they devoted themselves to practicing their resolution.
For those who must always maintain a tense shift rotation schedule, the most precious thing was time. They pored over necessary scientific and technical materials not only on their way to and from work but also during breaks, and sometimes held heated debates throughout the night. Some needed immediate medical treatment. But no one left the side of the sintering kiln.
The struggle of the sintering workteam workers, who steadfastly continued their path of exploration and creation, saving every moment, finally bore the fruit of success.
Just the tests conducted these days to obtain necessary measurements were carried out hundreds of times, and the voluminous test logs were replaced several times, so one can well imagine how intensely the ordinary workers pondered and how perseveringly they practiced to introduce the new sintering kiln operation technology.
The flame of new technology introduction kindled by the sintering workteam workers spread throughout the entire plant.
Comrade Sin Kwang Jin, head of the compressor workteam, and his members localized parts of the air compressor, ensuring its normal operation, and workers of the automation workteam boldly took on important technological innovation tasks such as establishing an automatic control system for the raw material weighing process, waged a round-the-clock brain battle, and performed flawlessly. Thereby, they greatly contributed to ensuring the safe operation of the sintering kiln and improving the quality of cement.
Day by day, workplaces seethed with technological innovation.
Then one day last February.
The complexion of the manager of the limestone mine, who was inspecting the site, was dark.
The technological innovation project to improve blasting efficiency and enhance the performance of excavators was making little progress. Moreover, what weighed heavily on his mind was the mistaken view of some workers who regarded the mine's technological innovation goals as something that technicians should handle. Consequently, the atmosphere for technological innovation at the mine was very low. That day, the manager deeply realized that without transforming the technological innovation project into the masses' own undertaking, no achievements could be made in fulfilling the unit's technological development goals.
Afterwards, under the guidance of the Party organization, the mine raised a strong wind of ideological campaign to deeply implant in the masses the understanding that today's attitude towards science and technology is one's stance and position towards the revolution, and that one who does not know technology and turns away from technological innovation work cannot be loyal to the Party no matter how much one tries.
Within this atmosphere, each workshop and workteam concretely re-established their technological innovation goals.
These specifically reflected who would accomplish which technological innovation goal with whom and by when, and a vigorous technological innovation movement unfolded at the sites.
In those days, the mine's officials and workers successively accomplished technological innovation goals such as creating and introducing advanced blasting methods and modifying excavator buckets and electric motors. Thereby, they brought about noticeable changes in the work for production growth.
The officials and working class of the Chonnaeri Cement Plant, who are continuously expanding production achievements by making bold decisions and persevering in implementation in the struggle to carry out Party decisions, hold dear in their hearts only one thing: the single-minded loyalty to greet the glorious Party Congress with proud labor achievements.
It is with this passion, hotter than fire, that they are at this very moment spurring on the struggle to produce more cement with bold and tenacious practical power.

For More Logs

One can almost hear the sound of the chainsaw echoing through the mountainside at any moment.
The protagonist in the photo, vigorously cutting down a tall tree reaching towards the sky, is a feller from the Rangrim Forestry Management Station.
With fiery enthusiasm to achieve innovative results in today's work as well, he is pushing ahead with the tree-felling task with skilled hands.
How can this be seen merely as a canvas capturing a moment of work?
Right here is reflected the trustworthy appearance of the management station officials and employees who, though working deep in the mountains unnoticed by people, devote sincere sweat with the single-minded intention to contribute to the advance and development of the motherland through increased log production.
Truly, looking at the passionate figure of the feller, one feels warmly the single-minded loyalty of the log producers here, who are glorifying each day of today for the implementation of Party decisions with production achievements and will proudly greet the glorious Party Congress, making one's heart swell with warmth.

Livestock Breeding Experiences of Households

Finding a Way to Increase Weight Gain Rate
Comrade Ri Son Suk, a member of Sub-workteam 2, Workteam 6 of the Up Farm in Taedong County, started raising pigs at home over ten years ago.
She brought a few piglets, and at first they grew well. But after a while, their hair grew long and their growth rate slowed down.
Even amidst busy farm work, Comrade Ri Son Suk read books on livestock breeding and learned from the experiences of units and households good at raising pigs, and in the process realized there was a problem with the pigpen. The original pen was hot and humid in summer and too cold in winter, resulting in a low weight gain rate.
Her husband, understanding his wife's mind, actively helped out. The couple decided to rebuild the pigpen and devoted themselves to it.
They dug the ground to a certain depth on a sunny slope, formed the walls, floor, and ceiling with concrete, and provided ventilation windows of a certain size. They thickly laid soil on the roof, enabling the cultivation of vegetables. The pigpen, built to suit their own conditions, had many good points.
According to Comrade Ri Son Suk, the newly built pen was well insulated, so even at dawn when winter temperatures were lowest, the internal temperature was suitable for livestock growth.
Previously, the pigs would grow to a certain point and then seem to stagnate, but now it's cool in summer and the temperature is guaranteed in winter, so their appetite improved and the weight gain rate increased. It was also good to grow vegetables on the roof and use the by-products as feed.
The household increased the number of pigs in the new pen while saving more grain feed than before. The couple raised dozens of piglets a year, keeping only a few for fattening and adding the rest to the household economy. They also contributed considerably to properly manuring the fields with tens of tons of pig manure yearly and increasing crop yields.
Comrade Ri Son Suk's household is fully benefiting from the pigpen built to increase the weight gain rate. This household raises not only pigs but also many chickens and ducks, making their life affluent.
