Russian Federation Council Delegation Pays Tribute at Kumsusan Palace of the Sun A delegation of the Russian Federation Council, headed by Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, paid tribute to the Great Leader Kim Il Sung and the Great Leader Kim Jong Il at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on the morning of the 14th. Accompanying them were Kang Yun Sok, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; Pak In Chol, Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly; and Alexander Matsegora, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Korea. Russian Federation Council Delegation Arrives in Pyongyang At the invitation of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, a Russian Federation Council delegation headed by Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin arrived in Pyongyang on the 14th for a congratulatory visit marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation. Pyongyang International Airport was filled with a warm welcome for the envoys of the friendly neighboring country, bearing the goodwill of the Russian people amid the steadfast advancement of Korea-Russia relations into an invincible alliance. The national flags of the DPRK and the Russian Federation flew at the flagpole square, while an honor guard of the Korean People’s Army stood at the terminal. Having gloriously served for over 40 years as a hub for winter sports development and physical training for workers and youth, the ice rink has now been reborn as a multifunctional sports and cultural complex. It meets the demands of the new era of civilization and renaissance, fully accommodating ice sports, diverse indoor athletic events, and colorful artistic performances in tandem with the great surge in construction. An opening ceremony for the newly renovated ice rink was held on the 14th to mark the significant 80th anniversary of Liberation. Comrade Kim Tok Hun delivered the opening address. He noted that the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un clearly set forth the direction and methods to remodel the ice rink into a new form of sports-cultural hub and energetically guided its world-class renovation. He emphasized that the true stature and absolute height of the ice rink—a monument embodying Kim Jong Un’s noble will to preserve this sacred historical creation not merely as a symbol of the past but as a treasure for athletes and future generations—cannot be measured by any standard of advancement or civilization. The speaker stressed that the physical and technical foundations of sports must also be revolutionized in this era of comprehensive development, expressing confidence that this splendid new cultural-sports complex will showcase national revival and progress while making life more beautiful, joyful, and vibrant. Following the ceremony, a figure skating gala was held.
