The people in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are never afraid of the hostile forces' harsh sanctions and pressure intended to block the country's victorious advance and development, as they have the spirit of self-reliance, the tradition of struggle and the motive power of victory.

In the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle for Korea’s liberation, the Korean revolutionaries, with the stand that one is responsible for one’s own destiny, wrested weapons from the enemy and manufactured "Yongil bombs" by their own efforts without state-backing home front to defeat the imperialist aggressors of Japan which styled itself "the leader of Asia".

The revolutionary spirit of self-reliance created during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle became the tradition and spirit of struggle for the Korean people, opening up a new era that thing is created out of nothing.

When everything of the country was destroyed during the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) to repulse the armed invasion of the imperialist allied forces, the Korean people restored the country on the war ruins in the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude, displaying the stamina of heroic Korea.

They also realized the socialist industrialization in a brief period of 14 years, while constructing cities and factories and making modern machinery and equipment by their own efforts, and turned the DPRK into a socialist country furnished with the solid self-supporting economy and self-reliant military capabilities.

If the Korean people had abandoned the principle of self-reliance in submission to the outsiders' pressure, socialist Korea of Juche would not have emerged on the earth and its name would have disappeared with the collapse of global socialist system.

Today, the DPRK people are proud of having successfully built a socialist country, independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in defence, by dint of self-reliance.
