Sixth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea

In December Juche 68 (1979) the 19th Plenary Meeting of the Fifth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea adopted a decision on convening the Sixth Congress of the Party in October Juche 69 (1980) marking the 35th founding anniversary of the Party.

The official report on convention of the Party congress greatly excited the whole country.

The Great Leader Kim Jong Il energetically organized and led the preparations for the Sixth Congress of the WPK with a plan to make it a historic one providing another milestone in the development of the Party and revolution.

He saw that the Party ranks were firmly built up and the masses of broad sections closely rallied behind the Party to further consolidate the political foundation of the Korean revolution.

He organized 100-day campaign to complete the national economic plan for 1980 before the Party congress and powerfully roused the entire Party and all the people.

He wisely led the whole work of the congress with responsibility, ranging from its preparations to progress.

He mapped out a plan to organize the congress and the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of the Party on the largest-ever scale and guided the work on the spot for holding them on the highest level.

The Sixth Congress of the WPK grandly opened in the capital city Pyongyang on October 10, Juche 69 (1980), focussing the world attention.

The congress was attended by delegates with the right to vote and those with the right to speak selected from the Party conferences at all levels and observers--more than 6,000 in all. Also on hand were 177 party and government delegations and personages of different stripes from 118 countries that had come to congratulate the congress and the 35th anniversary of the Party.  

The Great Leader Kim Il Sung made a report on the work of the Central Committee of the WPK and the congress discussed its agenda with success.

The election of the Party central leadership organ was held and its result made public on October 14.

 

 

The congress invariably elected Kim Il Sung General Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK and Kim Jong Il Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Member of the Central Military Commission of the Party.

It was a token of the absolute trust and unanimous desire of the entire party and all the people to uphold Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il at the head of the WPK forever and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche through generations. And it was a great event to shine in the chronicle of the WPK.

The Sixth Congress of the WPK was a historic one of great significance which provided a new milestone in strengthening and developing the Party as the Party of Kim Il Sung forever and firmly consolidating its foundation.
