The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, convened a meeting of commanders of all divisions and brigades of the entire army on May 17 and met them.

Present there were Comrade Ri Yong Gil, Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, and Comrade Pak Jong Chon, Advisor to the Ministry of National Defence of the DPRK.

The hearts of the commanders who greeted the glorious moment of meeting the Supreme Commander at the sacred Party Central Committee building, which our service personnel always enshrine solemnly in their hearts wherever they are — in the sky, land and sea posts of the homeland — were stirred with powerful emotion.

When Comrade Kim Jong Un appeared, the thunderous cheers of “Hurrah!” burst out like a volcano as the participants looked up to the outstanding leader of the revolution who, with his superb military philosophy and leadership art, steadily guides the endless strengthening and development of our army to glory and victory.

Comrade Kim Jong Un, deeply appreciating the extraordinary efforts of the commanders who are leading the combined units, devoting themselves to the country and the people, warmly encouraged them.

Comrade Kim Jong Un sat together with the commanders of the combined units at all levels of the entire army and discussed a series of important military issues.

Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed that the duties of the commanders of the combined units are very important, and said that the historic mission to arm our army as the strongest army in the world is entrusted precisely to the commanders of divisions and brigades, and indicated the main directions for the fulfilment of the current military and political tasks.

Comrade Kim Jong Un again mentioned that training for the completion of combat preparations is the army’s primary duty, and set forth the policy of readjusting the training system and intensifying practical training in keeping with the changing aspects of modern warfare and the development trend of our army.

Comrade Kim Jong Un referred to the fact that organizational measures will be taken in the future to renew our army in terms of military organization and military technology, and stressed that the responsibility and role of the commanders are very important in accurately implementing them.

Comrade Kim Jong Un said that, in line with the rapid modernization of our army’s military technical equipment, the operational concept in all spaces should be newly defined, and the planning work to apply it to the combat training of units should be actively stepped up.

In particular, he referred to our Party’s territorial defence policy of strengthening the frontline units guarding the southern border and turning the border line into an impregnable fortress, and expressed the idea of reorganizing the military organizational structure as an important decision to deter war more thoroughly, and of strengthening the frontline units and other important units militarily and technologically in the future.

Comrade Kim Jong Un, introducing the prospects for the modernization of our army and the progress of military technical equipment, affirmed that we are building a powerful army, and that, as already declared, when the tasks of the future five‑year plan period are carried out, the strategic action readiness of our army will be renewed incomparably compared with the present, and a great change will be brought about in terms of war deterrence.

Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed that the commanders of the entire army and all levels should continue to heighten the consciousness of class and the principal enemy and, always in a highly agitated state, remain faithful to the sacred duty of defending sovereignty.

Comrade Kim Jong Un said that we must defend the country with ideology and faith before physical strength, and that ideology and faith are the secret of the unique combat power of our army that breaks through even the limits of physical strength, and underlined that the People’s Army should continue the tradition of the Korean People’s Army of overwhelming the enemy with ideology and faith by holding fast to its firm belief in its cause and constantly waging an ideological revolution, and that only when it does so will our army firmly maintain the honour and status of the strongest army in the world.

Comrade Kim Jong Un said that the expectations of our Party and people toward the commanders of our People’s Army are very high, and asked them to deeply cherish the heavy sense of responsibility for their mission and remain faithful to the sacred duty, whether they are recognized or not.

That day, Comrade Kim Jong Un had a significant commemorative photo taken with the commanders of the combined units of the entire army in the courtyard of the Party Central Committee.

Looking up to the great commander close by and receiving his boundless trust and incomparable glory, the commanders of the combined units at all levels of the People’s Army hardened their firm resolve to engrave the Supreme Commander’s programmatic teachings as the guideline of struggle, infinitely remain faithful to the important mission and duty before the Party and the revolution, and fully display the honour of being a commander of the Korean People’s Army in the most glorious and strongest era led by him.
