A Ukrainian army prisoner of war who recently surrendered to the Korean People's Army in the village of Guevo, Kursk Region, gave testimony in an interview with a war correspondent about the circumstances at the time and the humane treatment by the Korean army.

The prisoner, a native of the city of Antratsyt in Lugansk Region, stated that he was not a volunteer but a victim of conscription. He explained that he was initially imprisoned, but the authorities released him on condition of house arrest, which was a scheme to mobilize him immediately after release.

Recalling the circumstances at the time of surrender, he said that the battle unfolded very rapidly, and suddenly grenades flew into the trench and an unknown language was heard. He confided that the moment his comrades realized the language was Korean, they fell into panic, believing, deceived by the propaganda of the Ukrainian authorities, that the Korean army does not spare prisoners.

However, reality was completely different from their fears. The Korean army instructed them to announce by radio that they do not kill prisoners, and ensured humanitarian treatment by providing tourniquets to the wounded. The prisoner assessed that the Korean army soldiers were excellent young men, and testified that they themselves made a stretcher and escorted a wounded Korean army soldier to the Russian army position.

He also exposed the actual situation inside the Ukrainian army. Before leaving for military training in France, there were brutal acts within the army where a drunken soldier was taped to a tree for two or three days, and deserters who were caught were punished in the same way. He conveyed that desertion attempts occurred almost daily, and the morale within the army had deteriorated to an extreme degree.
