On August 12, 2026, a joint celebratory meeting was held in Moscow to mark the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese imperialism (August 15, 1945).

The event was organized by the Russian Union of Veterans, the Russian Society for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK, the DPRK International Solidarity Group (DPRK ISG), and the Russian Council of Veterans of the Korean War (1950–1953).

The meeting was attended by officials of the International Union of Korean Public Associations "KOSARYON", the Moscow City Council of Veterans, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the All-Russian Organization "Officers of Russia", the Representative Office in Russia of the Russia-DPRK joint venture "RasonConTrans", the Center for Russian Strategy in Asia of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Foreign Ministry, and the DPRK Embassy in the Russian Federation, as well as representatives of various public organizations, prominent Russian scholars, and authoritative Korea experts.

Congratulatory speeches were delivered by Comrade Yuri Dyakov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Union of Veterans; Comrade Alexander Golovashkin, Chairman for Patriotic Education of the All-Russian Organization "Officers of Russia"; and Comrade Mun Ho, Minister-Counsellor of the DPRK Embassy in the Russian Federation.

Reports were presented by Comrade Alexander Vorontsov, Head of the Korea and Mongolia Department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Comrade Sergey Baburin, President of the International Association of Peace Foundation; Comrade Yuri Sibryaev, Head of the Organizational and Planning Department of the Russian Union of Veterans; Comrade Lavrenty Gurdzhiev, member of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK; Comrade Dmitry Vasilets, member of the Central Committee of the DPRK ISG and Head of the Ukrainian Executive Committee of the DPRK ISG; and Comrade Georgy Toloraya, Head of the Center for Russian Strategy in Asia of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The meeting was moderated by Comrade Andrey Shin, Chairman of the Russian Council of Veterans of the Korean War.

On behalf of the public representatives attending the celebratory meeting, Comrade Pyotr Shishkov, Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK, read out a letter addressed to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK.

The letter was handed to Comrade Mun Ho, Minister-Counsellor of the DPRK Embassy in the Russian Federation.
