The 7th Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea (SWUK) was held here on June 20 and 21.

It comprehensively analyzed and reviewed the women's union work during the period under review and discussed tasks and practical ways for making the union fulfill its mission and duty as the revolutionary women's organization in the campaign for winning a new great victory in socialist construction.

Present at the congress were delegates elected by the women's union organizations at all levels.

Present there as observers were officials of the Party, administration and armed forces organs.

The platform was taken by Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Ri Tu Song, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, executive members of the Central Committee of the SWUK, chairwomen of the provincial women's union committees, officials in charge of the women's union work at the armed forces organs and exemplary officials and hard-core members of the women's union organizations and officials concerned.

The congress elected its presidium and secretariat.

It approved the following agenda items:

  1. Review of the work of the Central Committee of the SWUK
  2. Review of the work of the Central Inspection Commission of the SWUK
  3. On revising the rules of the SWUK
  4. Election of the central leadership organ of the SWUK

At the congress, Comrade Ri Il Hwan read out "Let the Women’s Union Become a Powerful Unit in Propelling the Advance and Development of Our Style of Socialism", the important letter sent by Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, to the participants in the 7th SWUK Congress.
