The Regional Committee of the DPRK International Solidarity Group (DPRK ISG) in the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation organized a series of events dedicated to the 84th anniversary of the birth of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il — the Day of the Shining Star. Thematic meetings, film screenings and discussions took place in Moscow, Voronezh and Smolensk with the participation of students, Korean studies experts and activists of youth organizations.

On February 13 in Moscow, the Lenin District Branch of the Komsomol of the Russian Federation, together with the DPRK ISG and with the participation of comrades from the JoJack movement, organized a film screening dedicated to the upcoming holiday and the participation of Korean soldiers in combat operations in the Kursk region.

The event was attended by leading researcher at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS), Director of the 2nd Scientific Department of the DPRK ISG Comrade Konstantin Asmolov; Director of the 4th Administrative Department of the DPRK ISG Comrade Alexander Mostov; representative of the Chinese Executive Committee, one of the founders of the DPRK ISG Comrade Li Jizheng; Head of the Friendship Club with Korea at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University Comrade Sergey Mikhailov; Regional Secretary for the Central Federal District Comrade Ivan Kozlov; and others.

Before the screening, renowned Russian Korean studies scholar Konstantin Asmolov delivered a mini-lecture dedicated to the figure of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, whose ideas became the foundation for the subsequent activities of Comrade Kim Jong Il. He noted that modern researchers, unfortunately, make mistakes when studying world military leaders. A welcoming address was given by Comrade Alexander Mostov, who opened the event, while Comrade Ivan Kozlov emphasized the importance of the strategic alliance with the DPRK.

After the screening of the documentary film depicting episodes of the joint struggle of Russian and Korean soldiers, participants discussed the role of Comrade Kim Jong Il in history, the prospects for international cooperation, as well as the moral strength and significance of the feat of the Korean heroes.

On the same day, the first meeting of the DPRK Solidarity Group cell at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University took place. Students watched a Korean documentary film about the participation of DPRK special operations forces in the liberation of the Kursk region.

Participants in the meeting discussed the life and work of Comrade Kim Jong Il, his contribution to overcoming difficulties caused by natural disasters and the hostile international situation, and the establishment of the DPRK as a nuclear power. It was decided to use the institute's capabilities to organize a screening of the film about the Kursk liberation operation for a wider audience.

On February 14 in Voronezh, members of the Friendship Club with Korea at Voronezh State University (VSU), led by the head of the club Comrade Maxim Marchenko and his deputy Mikhail Prudushchenko, held a meeting dedicated to the Day of the Shining Star.

During a lively discussion, students of Voronezh universities learned about the history of the holiday and its significance in the DPRK. Special attention was paid to the outstanding contribution of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il to the development of the Juche idea and his creation of the Songun principles. Participants noted that the greatest achievement of Comrade Kim Jong Il was the creation of Korea's nuclear shield and the country's transformation into a space power, which allowed the Republic to navigate the long years of the Arduous March. Club members also exposed a number of monstrous fabrications of Western bourgeois propaganda about the DPRK, planning topics for further discussions.

The culmination of the meeting was the screening of a Korean documentary film about the combat path of units of the Korean People's Army in the Kursk region. The film, which told of the heroism of Korean soldiers and was accompanied by telegrams from respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, made a deep impression. After the film, Comrade Mikhail Prudushchenko called on all solidarity activists to remember the feats of the KPA and Russian Armed Forces warriors and to resolutely expose attempts by hostile forces to drive a wedge between our countries and peoples.

On February 16, the Day of the Shining Star itself, an "important lesson" dedicated to the life and revolutionary activities of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il was held in one of the city's schools in Smolensk at the initiative of our organization's activists. Students were told about the significance of this holiday for the Korean people, about the childhood and formation of the great commander, and his invaluable contribution to strengthening the independence and defense capabilities of the DPRK.

All the events, which brought together students, schoolchildren, experts and public figures, were held in a spirit of international solidarity, contributed to the dissemination of truthful knowledge about Korea and the further strengthening of the fraternal friendship between the peoples of Russia and the DPRK. The Regional Committee in the Central Federal District reaffirms its commitment to systematic work on the development of people's diplomacy and support for the course of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
