— Student Conference “Russian-Korean Friendship Forged by History: Dedicated to the 9th WPK Congress” Held — On March 13, students and lecturers of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, as part of the International Scientific Conference for Studying the Results of the 9th WPK Congress, delivered reports testifying to the undying merits of the Workers' Party of Korea before the people of the DPRK and all progressive peoples of the world. The conference “Russian-Korean Friendship Forged by History: Dedicated to the 9th WPK Congress” brought together students and staff of IAAS and other faculties of Moscow University, as well as guests from other higher education institutions, united by the desire to deeply study the historic results of the 9th WPK Congress and the successes achieved by the Party during the reporting period. A message from the Coordination Committee of the DPRK International Solidarity Group (DPRK ISG) was read out. Comrade Sergey Mikhailov directed the proceedings. The speakers presented in the following order: 1. International Significance of the Results of the 9th WPK Congress 2. Russian-Korean Relations in the Era of Kim Jong Il and Their Development during the Reporting Period of the 9th WPK Congress 3. Cultural and Educational Ties between Russia and the DPRK: History and Current State 4. Medicine in the DPRK 5. The 9th WPK Congress through the Eyes of a Historian Specializing in the CPSU 6. An Ancient Chinese View on the History of Korea and Chinese-Korean Relations 7. Main Themes and Artistic Images in Contemporary Painting of the DPRK (on the Example of the Exhibition “Country of the Great People”) After the opening of the conference, Alexander Mostov, Director of the 4th Administrative Department of the DPRK ISG, addressed the participants and guests, outlining the decisions of the 9th Congress that are particularly significant not only for advancing the revolution and construction within Korea but also for the international struggle for independence and justice. Comrade Mostov emphasized the importance of developing a scientific approach to studying the activities of the WPK, fundamentally different from the biased practices of Western experts and analysts. He noted that against this backdrop, the role of the scientific and student community is especially important. In the current situation, only the demarginalization of the international solidarity movement with the DPRK, a final rejection of various forms of “political cosplay” and the vicious practice of “ritual gatherings” in favor of holding conferences that promote the study of Korea and its social system on a scientific basis, can influence public consciousness, in which over decades of dominance of the ROK narrative many fakes and prejudices regarding the DPRK have become entrenched. The participants and guests of the conference once again watched the documentary film “Kursk Liberation Operation,” which has already become so beloved by Russians. It was emphasized that our country, all its people, will always remember the feat of the Korean warriors who gave their lives and youth for the liberation of Russia and the cause of fighting fascism. Finally, students of Moscow University delivered reports on various topics related to the policies of the WPK and its achievements, many of whom in the future will become not only scholars but also diplomats building Russian-Korean relations at a new level. Angelina Oganyan, a second-year master's student, spoke about the historical foundations and political mechanisms of practical cooperation between Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in which inter-party contacts play a special role. During the reporting period of the 9th Congress, Russian-Korean relations reached comprehensive strategic partnership, demonstrating the WPK's firm course towards strengthening the friendship between our two countries. Sofia Petrosova, a second-year bachelor's student, continuing the theme of Russian-Korean relations, outlined the main historical directions of cultural contacts between the two countries, noting the unprecedented breadth of cultural and educational ties between Russia and the DPRK in the five-year period before the 9th Congress. Also a second-year bachelor's student, Anastasia Prutik, speaking about the history of Korean medicine and the challenges faced by the DPRK's healthcare system, emphasized the special attention of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to the care for the people's health, which was reflected in the construction of new modern hospitals not only in the capital but also in the provinces. Andrei Abramov, Assistant at the Department of History of Political Parties, Faculty of History, Moscow State University, compared the role, scale, and tasks of the CPSU congresses in the Soviet Union and those of the Workers' Party of Korea. He particularly highlighted the scientific and mass-oriented approach to the formation of WPK policy, born in practical activity and lively discussions. Wang Jinhao, a second-year master's student, spoke about the history of the formation and development of Korean-Chinese relations, which have not only a political-economic but also a cultural, civilizational character. Fourth-year bachelor's students Sofia Usmanova and Nadezhda Zainutdinova addressed themes of art, which in the public life of the DPRK serves as a powerful means of raising the creative forces of the masses for the construction of socialism. The paintings and other art objects presented to Russians in the autumn of 2025 at the exhibition “Country of the Great People” were mostly created precisely during the reporting period of the 9th Congress, when the creative impulse of the Korean people reached unprecedented heights. Concluding the work of the conference, Comrade Sergey Mikhailov, Head of the Friendship Club with Korea at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University, thanked the Embassy of the DPRK and the DPRK International Solidarity Group for organizing the International Conference and the comprehensive support for the aspiration of the Russian student and academic community to study the results of the 9th WPK Congress and the historic achievements of the Korean people. All speakers were presented with commemorative badges bearing the logo of the Workers' Party of Korea, made exclusively for the participants of the scientific conference. |
