On the occasion of the 114th anniversary of the birth of the founder and President of Korea, the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, the Serbian Regional Committee of the DPRK International Solidarity Group (DPRK ISG), together with the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ), submitted a request to the Commission for Monuments and the Naming of Squares and Streets of the Belgrade City Assembly to name a street in the capital after the Great Leader and to erect a bust in his honor. The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung is a great friend of the Yugoslav and Serbian peoples. He maintained close relations both with the President of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, Comrade Josip Broz Tito, and with the Yugoslav leadership that governed the country after Tito’s death. President Kim Il Sung visited Belgrade several times, and during one of his visits planted a tree in the Friendship Park in New Belgrade. In 1984, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Serbian capital. Korea itself, founded by the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, has always maintained friendly relations with the Serbian people, and the tradition of joint anti-fascist and anti-imperialist struggle dates back to the period of resistance against the Japanese and German occupiers. Today, Korea not only actively fights against Western hegemony but also provides diplomatic support to our country: Korea does not recognize the independence of the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” and is also one of the 19 states that voted against the disgraceful UN General Assembly Resolution on the so-called “Genocide in Srebrenica.” The Serbian people have a duty to maintain and strengthen friendly relations with socialist and anti-imperialist countries, nations, and movements, among which Korea stands out as a shining example of a socialist nation engaged in an active struggle against imperialism. With the goal of strengthening relations between our two peoples, SKOJ today, on the 114th birthday of President Kim Il Sung, calls on the City of Belgrade to show respect to its Honorary Citizen by granting him a street and erecting a bust in his likeness. May the coming generations, both in Korea and in Serbia, remember the heroic deeds and wise leadership of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, as well as the strong friendship between the Serbian and Korean peoples, forged in the common struggle against fascism and imperialism, for socialism! |
