A Proud Juche-Type Overseas Compatriot Organization of Loyalty and Patriotism

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said as follows:

“Sharing its destiny with the motherland, the vigorous advance of Chongryon towards a bright future can never be blocked by anything, and its sacred journey will shine brilliantly along with the high prestige of our Republic.”

The General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), which has steadfastly walked the single path of patriotism over centuries and generations, linking its lifeline of destiny solely to the motherland even amid the turbulent vortex of complex and diverse history, marked the 71st anniversary of its formation.

Looking back on the proud history of Chongryon, which bears the honourable name of a model of overseas compatriot organizations in the world, has engraved only the annals of patriotism on its path, and has firmly maintained its pure essence even amidst bitter storms, achieving only victory and glory under the banner of the Republic, the homeland people send the warmest congratulations and fervent greetings to the reliable members of the family and the overseas revolutionary comrades in a foreign land.

Amid Burning Love and Trust

Numerous overseas compatriots live in this world. There are also not a few organizations representing their rights and interests.

But there is no organization like Chongryon that possesses a great ideology and tradition, a powerful organizational structure, patriotic compatriot masses, and a well-organized educational system. All the more, there is no organization that has embroidered the tradition of patriotism for over 70 years not in a peaceful environment but amidst the worst hardships.

Under the banner of Juche, Chongryon has been strengthened and developed into an authoritative and powerful overseas compatriot organization that reliably leads the movement of Koreans in Japan even under the difficult conditions of a capitalist foreign land. In both stern times and peaceful days, it has always shared its destiny with the homeland and actively contributed to the prosperity and development of the socialist homeland.

The burning love and trust of the peerless great men nurtured this sacred patriotic unit.

The Great Leader bestowed upon the compatriots in Japan, who had shed tears of blood as a ruined people, the joy of the homeland's liberation and the honour of being dignified overseas citizens of new Korea, rescued the movement of Koreans in Japan when it was at a crossroads of life and death, and firmly placed it on the track of Juche.

Even in the midst of being so busy leading the building of a new country after the homeland's liberation, the Great Leader did not forget the compatriots suffering in a foreign land. The letter “To the One Million Compatriots in Japan” sent by the Great Leader was a crystallization of the infinitely noble love for the compatriots in Japan who had been subjected to a fate of many tribulations.

The Great Leader's original line of reorientation, that although Koreans live on Japanese soil, they must struggle for their own country, their own nation and the revolution of their own country, was a benevolent ray of light that rescued the movement of Koreans in Japan when it faced trials.

During those years of suffering, the compatriots in Japan, who had been forcibly taken to a foreign land, compelled to live as slaves, and suffered life and death, yet had to regard it as an unavoidable fate, absolutely trusted and followed the fatherly Leader who restored the country to them, as a peerless patriot and a great leader.

The formation of Chongryon, which brought about a significant change in the lives of the compatriots in Japan, was a historic event that enabled the wretched sufferers of history to cast anchor of their destiny forever in the bosom of the true motherland.

With the formation of Chongryon, the compatriots in Japan came to have a powerful organization that protects their dignity, rights and interests on behalf of the homeland in a foreign land, and could also possess the precious honour of being a member of the Republic's Juche-type overseas compatriot organization.

The Great Leader put forward compatriots from all walks of life in Japan as deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly who discuss state affairs, and enabled Chongryon to actively advance onto the international arena and highly display the dignity and honour of the nation.

It was also our Leader who established the loving tradition of sending education aid funds and scholarships for the children of compatriots in Japan during the difficult postwar period, who opened the sea route for the return of compatriots in Japan and unfolded a new history of a great national migration from capitalism to socialism, and who, even in the midst of being so busy with state affairs, personally called Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan visiting the homeland close to him and bestowed upon them the supreme glory and happiness.

The Great General, at every period and every stage of the development of the revolution and the changing situation, clearly illuminated the path Chongryon should follow, and highly valued the contributions made by Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan on the path of patriotism.

The noble love and trust bestowed by the Great General upon the sons and daughters in a foreign land are warmly engraved in every chapter of the history of the movement of Koreans in Japan.

Even during the stern period when our homeland was undergoing trials, the Great General held the hands of Chongryon and the compatriots in Japan and led them so that they would overcome all difficulties with the conviction of sure victory and indomitable will and walk the path of patriotism without change.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is devoting all his painstaking efforts and labour to unchangeably glorifying Chongryon, which had been led by the Great Leader and the Great General, as a model organization of the Juche-oriented overseas compatriot movement.

It is the noble intention of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to value and protect Chongryon, the patriotic heritage of Juche, in every way, and to do everything for the dignified life and bright future of Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who highly valued the merits of Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan embedded in the sacred development course of the founding, defence, miracles and prosperity of our Republic, made the fervent promise of love that unstinting support and sincerity would be rendered for a better life and a brighter future of the compatriots.

He saw to it that the defence of the national rights and interests of overseas compatriots was stipulated in the Rules of the Workers' Party of Korea, and the Law on the Defence of the Rights and Interests of Overseas Compatriots was promulgated for the first time in the history of the Republic's constitution, thereby clarifying the unshakable will of our Party and the government of the Republic to remain faithful to their mission as the eternal protector of overseas compatriots including those in Japan.

In May 2015 and May 2025, on the occasions of the 60th and 70th anniversaries of Chongryon's formation, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent the programmatic letters “Let Us Open a New Heyday of the Movement of Koreans in Japan, Upholding the Intention of the Great Comrade Kim Jong Il” and “Let Us Write a New Great History of the Movement of Koreans in Japan by Carrying Forward the Patriotic Spirit of the Formation Generation”, giving infinite strength and courage to Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan.

The affectionate love of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who invited delegations of Chongryon to the homeland and warmly encouraged them, and his noble sense of obligation that placed the officials who devoted their lives to the strengthening and development of the movement of Koreans in Japan on the hill of eternal life, are deeply touching the hearts of the compatriots.

Numerous Chongryon officials and compatriot students who visited the homeland were embraced in his benevolent bosom and had commemorative photos taken in glory.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un bestowed on the compatriots in Japan, who uphold the Leader, defend the homeland and safeguard the Chongryon organization in a windswept foreign land, the precious titles of “our own brothers and sisters who are tied to the motherland by the same bloodline”, “members of the same family”, and “the great our people living in a foreign land”.

Because there has been such a hand of burning trust of the peerless great men, the Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan have been able to walk the path of patriotism without change, without knowing frustration even amid harsh hardships that threaten their lives, rights and interests.

The Pedigree of Patriotism Is Firmly Carried Forward

No matter how excellent the history and tradition are, if the generation to inherit them is not prepared, not to speak of succession, the decline of the organization itself cannot be avoided. Although much has changed in the flow of time, Chongryon is steadfastly carrying forward the ideals and spirit it held high at the starting point of its formation.

That it is firmly united organizationally and ideologically on the basis of the great Juche idea and, as a powerful organization deeply rooted among the broad compatriot masses, vigorously pushing the movement of Koreans in Japan forward—this is the proud true image of Chongryon unchanging yesterday and today.

That the children of the compatriots are growing up into true patriots through a well-organized educational system, and core members of the new generation of compatriots who will glorify the history of the movement of Koreans in Japan are being trained and firmly carrying forward the pedigree of patriotism—this is the pride of Chongryon and the motive force of its strength.

Today, Chongryon is vigorously struggling to write a new great history of the movement of Koreans in Japan, upholding the programmatic letter sent by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Chongryon's formation.

Deeply cherishing the great trust and expectation of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the Chongryon officials are fulfilling their honourable responsibility and duty in more vigorously pushing forward the comprehensive development of the movement of Koreans in Japan. They are steadfastly continuing the path of devoted struggle for the compatriot masses, just like the formation generation who fought unswervingly on the path of patriotism without changing their faith and fidelity. They are striving to become true servants and close blood relations who sincerely care for the compatriots and rush for their well-being.

The grassroots organizations, including branches and sub-branches, are being firmly strengthened as reliable cornerstones of patriotism.

Chongryon's organizations and bodies at all levels, holding fast to ideology as the basis and giving priority to propaganda and education work, are raising the political enthusiasm and advance momentum of the compatriot masses in every way, and are vigorously waging the three major priority tasks—the defence of rights and interests, the training of the new generation, and the safeguarding of national identity.

The traction power of publications and propaganda materials, including the newspaper Choson Sinbo, is growing further.

The Kumgangsan Opera Troupe and regional song and dance troupes, as befitting Juche-type overseas art organizations that grew up under the care of the peerless great men, are conducting vigorous artistic activities suited to the sentiments and psychology of the compatriots, deeply instilling the soul of a Korean in the hearts of the compatriots and raising their patriotic enthusiasm.

Today, as the new generation is emerging as the protagonist of Chongryon's patriotic activities, the future of the movement of Koreans in Japan depends on how the compatriot youth are brought up.

Chongryon is directing its main efforts to the work of training the compatriot youth into reliable successors and alternates who will carry forward the pedigree of patriotism without changing hearts under any adversity.

The homeland visits of the new generations, including the graduating class students of Chongryon Korean University and the members of the Korean Student and Children's Art Troupe in Japan, are becoming an essential process of cultivation and growth in which they directly experience the development of the homeland and perfect themselves as patriots. For them, the love they received in the homeland and everything they saw and felt are becoming nourishment for patriotism.

“Our homeland is the best of the best!”, “We will grow up more stoutly as the sons and daughters of a great powerful country.”, “We will prepare ourselves as the patriotic standard-bearers who will shoulder the future of Chongryon.”…

These are the passionate voices uttered by the new generations in the foreign land, as they keenly feel that they are able to live with pride even in a foreign land because they have a mighty homeland that no one can dare to look down upon.

Everyone strengthens the burning patriotic determination to contribute distinctively to glorifying the national prestige and honour of Juche Korea in the vanguard of overseas compatriots.

Is it only them?

The Chongryon patriotic cause will surely triumph as long as the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is there and there is the great socialist homeland that firmly protects and cares for the compatriots in Japan—this is the conviction overflowing in the hearts of all Chongryon officials and compatriots in Japan.

This surging current, which deeply cherishes the Juche-oriented line of the movement of Koreans in Japan clarified by the fatherly Leader and the indomitable patriotic spirit instilled by the Great General and vigorously pushes the patriotic movement forward under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, can never be blocked by anything.

Chongryon, which undoubtedly demonstrated the steadfastness of the sacred ideals and spirit of the Juche-oriented movement of Koreans in Japan as it marked the 70th anniversary of its formation last year, has now embarked on a new path of struggle and transformation, taking this 26th General Congress as an occasion.

Having an overseas compatriot organization like Chongryon, which is infinitely loyal to its homeland, is a great pride of our Republic and people.

The history of Chongryon, proud of Juche and patriotism, will shine forever in the annals of the homeland along with the yesterday, today and bright tomorrow of our Republic that is filled with victory and glory.

Efforts to Liquidate Remnants of Colonialism and for Independent Development

In many African countries, the movement to liquidate the remnants of the colonial era and reject domination is becoming more pronounced.

Not long ago, the Algerian Ambassador to the United Nations condemned France's crimes at an international conference.

He exposed the fact that France carried out 17 nuclear tests in Algerian territory in the 1960s, and denounced that although people suffering from congenital diseases have appeared around the test area, this country has not disclosed the exact test sites and is not providing necessary information. He stressed that it can never be justified that the French authorities are carrying out decontamination work in French Polynesia, while refusing the proposal for decontamination in Algeria.

France occupied Algeria in the 1830s and imposed harsh colonial rule.

Due to the aftermath of the nuclear tests France conducted in Algeria during colonial rule, hundreds of thousands of Algerians have suffered to this day. The issue of redressing the harmful aftermath has been continuously raised, but France has turned away from it. The Algerian Ambassador's remarks can be said to reflect the consistent efforts of this country's government to thoroughly liquidate the remnants of colonial rule.

Earlier, the South African President demanded compensation from Western countries for the plunder they committed against Africa during the colonial era. He exposed that the Western powers, over several centuries, enslaved countless Africans, committed inhumane abuse against them, and seized enormous wealth and many cultural relics from Africa. He affirmed that the Western countries must surely compensate for the crimes they committed, saying that due to the brutal colonial rule and systematic plunder, African countries are still suffering from constant economic losses, pain and debt burden.

Mauritius expressed its position of doing its utmost to end the British occupation of the Chagos Archipelago. Last April, the British government announced that it was deferring the bill approving the transfer of sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius asserted that his country has been waging a struggle for decades to reclaim the archipelago based on international law, and this is precisely the work of realizing justice. He stressed that they would reclaim the Chagos Archipelago by mobilizing all diplomatic and legal means.

Ghana, Zimbabwe and Madagascar are also countering the arrogant acts of the Western countries by taking resolute positions.

This movement, which is emerging as a trend in many African countries, cannot be considered simply as a work to redress the aftermath of colonial rule.

It is a manifestation of the strong aspiration to firmly stand on the road of rejecting the Western dominationist arbitrariness and achieving independent development.

The African Union, setting the goal of making Africa “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful continent driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena”, is confidently opening the road of independent development with united strength even amid the complex and diverse international political situation.

Last year, the African Development Bank, noting that Africa's economic growth rate rose to 3.7% in 2024, predicted that the continent would become the world's second fastest growing region after Asia.

It is reported that after the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area, the intra-regional trade volume is expected to grow from 1 922 billion US dollars in 2023 to 5 200 billion US dollars by 2030.

Many countries on the continent are strengthening investment in technological innovation and human resource development, and are actively establishing research funds and constructing technology districts.

An expert at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania stressed that Africa, which has a common history of ending colonial oppression and achieving independent development, is ready to greet a turning point in carving out its own destiny.

Analysts assess that Africa is re-evaluating its own development path and is striving to achieve political, economic and cultural independence by breaking away from the method of copying Western development.

Amid the growing cooperation for the development and prosperity of the continent, the 39th African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government was held last February at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

At the meeting, along with the issue of sustainable water management on the African continent, urgently arising practical issues such as peace and political stability, economic development, regional integration, enhancing Africa's global standing and strengthening unity were seriously discussed, which served as another important occasion in the course of accelerating independent development.
