Israel's Shameless Territorial Seizure Manoeuvres

The Israeli Ministry of Tourism announced a plan to build hotels in the West Bank.

The Ministry of Tourism advertised in a statement that the hotel construction plan is aimed at expanding the accommodation capacity for tourists and transforming the relevant area, where day-trip tourism was conducted, into a place where multi-day tourism is possible. The Ministry stated that the plan includes procedures for infrastructure development, site preparation and the construction of additional hotels, and publicly promised that it would provide government subsidies to developers. The intention is to accelerate hotel construction and expand tourism by attracting many developers.

At present, the situation in the West Bank is extremely acute.

The Israeli army, under the pretext of “wiping out terrorists”, is intensifying its military offensive against the Palestinians in this area. Under the patronage of the military, even Israeli settlers are joining in the attacks against the Palestinians. Consequently, bloody incidents are unfolding in this area every day. In May alone, as many as 1 659 attacks by the Israeli army and Jewish settlers targeting Palestinians were perpetrated.

Not long ago, an incident occurred in the city of Hebron in which Jewish settlers attacked Palestinians who were farming, wounding about 30 people including children, women and the elderly, and damaging infrastructure. The Israeli army, which subsequently stormed in, declared the relevant farmland a closed military zone and forcibly expelled the Palestinians. With the recent approval by the Israeli authorities of a budget plan to construct 34 new settlements in the West Bank, the confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians in this area is becoming even more acute.

According to a report published by a UN agency in June, at least 20 000 minors under the age of 18 have died in the Gaza Strip, and children in East Jerusalem and the West Bank are also suffering from brutal abuse including beatings. It is reported that 698 children have been wounded and there are countless children who have lost their lives.

The British newspaper The Guardian, in its June 21 edition, in an article titled “The Guardian View on Israel and the West Bank”, denounced that the economy of the West Bank has completely collapsed and terrorist acts by Jews have become more serious due to Israel's exercise of control since 1967, and that the Israeli authorities are doing nothing to eradicate the terrorist acts of the Jews.

Building hotels and expanding tourism in the West Bank, where everything is being destroyed and bloody incidents are ceaseless, is, from any perspective, an incongruous act. Then why is Israel engaging in this hotel construction farce in such an area?

The ulterior motive is clear.

It is to make the West Bank its own.

The West Bank is an internationally recognized inseparable territory of the Palestinians. According to the Oslo Accords signed in 1993 and other agreements, Israel is supposed to return the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to Palestine and promote the establishment of an independent state. The exercise of sovereignty by the Palestinians over the West Bank is a legitimate exercise of rights in accordance with such international law.

However, Israel, ignoring these international agreements, is incessantly carrying out the illegal settlement expansion farce in this area and is nibbling away the legitimate territory of Palestine inch by inch. By engaging in hotel construction and the like in the areas thus seized, it is trying to implicitly make the international community perceive that this area is its complete possession.

In a word, the hotel construction farce in the West Bank is a manifestation of the attempt to forcibly seize others' land and entrench it as its own.

Due to Israel's reckless behaviour of running wild without choosing means and methods to realize its territorial expansion ambition, a great number of Palestinians are being deprived of their livelihood and forced to take the road of refuge.

Reference to the Importance of Patriotic Education

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, at a meeting with the participants of the All-Russia Youth Forum on July 30, referred to the importance of patriotic education.

Issues Arising in Proper Grain Storage Management

Properly storing and managing the grain that has been planted, tended and harvested throughout spring and summer emerges as a very important issue.

What is most important in grain storage management is to reduce the moisture content of the grain.

If the moisture content in the grain is high, the activity of microorganisms becomes vigorous and the respiration of the grain intensifies. Then, it becomes inevitable that heat is generated in the grain pile and the grain heats up or rots.

Therefore, the harvested grain must be thoroughly dried and stored. In particular, the moisture content of rice, maize and beans must be ensured to be below 14%.

After maize is harvested, the ears are often stored in a crib. At this time, if the moisture content is high, the grain will suffer from all sorts of pathogens and insect pests, and the grain weight will decrease.

Generally, the moisture content of maize ears is about 30–40%. They must be dried to at least below 18% and stored.

The size and structure of the maize crib for ear storage should be determined in consideration of the climatic conditions of the relevant locality, and it should be designed to be well-ventilated so that the ears do not deteriorate.

What is next important in grain storage management is to lower the air humidity of the storage place as much as possible.

The relative air humidity of the storage place should be ensured to be below 65%. To do so, ventilation should be carried out frequently on clear days during the daytime. It is also good to put in hygroscopic substances such as quicklime or calcium chloride.

Next, the temperature of the storage place should be lowered as much as possible.

When the moisture content of the grain is 12–14%, it is good to ensure the temperature of the storage place at 0–10℃.

Meanwhile, the temperature of the storage place should be lowered by continuously blowing in cold air.

By doing so, not only does the temperature of the storage place decrease, but also the carbon dioxide generated in the storage process is blown away, so the grain can be stored for a long time.

In addition, the storage warehouse should be thoroughly disinfected, and corresponding measures should be taken to prevent damage from rats or birds.
