Recently, the Lee Jae Myung regime of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has rapidly strengthened military ties with NATO and the European Union, and even the possibility of direct military support to Kiev is being raised. These moves, carried out under the pretext of “peace” and “democracy”, show that it is a dangerous gamble to overcome the economic collapse of the ROK through the munitions industry and to jump on the bandwagon of NATO's advance into Asia.

On June 10, the joint statement adopted at the meeting between Lee Jae Myung and EU leaders in Brussels contained hostile content targeting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia. The statement repeated the assertion that “the Democratic People's Republic of Korea can never be recognized as a nuclear-weapon state”, denying the sovereign right of Korea. In this regard, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea issued a statement on June 13, defining the ROK as an “unchangeable enemy” and clearly clarifying its nature.

At the NATO summit held in Ankara on July 7, Lee Jae Myung presented the so-called “concept” of “ROK-NATO Partnership 2.0”. He proposed full-scale military integration ranging from joint development, production and operation beyond the sale of weapons to NATO member states. This is nothing but volunteering to become the “second special advance spearhead” for NATO's advance into Asia, and a scheme for the munitions industry of the ROK to deeply penetrate NATO's war market. Lee Jae Myung, who is from the Democratic Party, is essentially no different from his predecessor, the conservative Yoon Suk Yeol. If Yoon Suk Yeol laid the foundation for incorporating the ROK into the global arms market by emphasizing military-technical cooperation with NATO, Lee Jae Myung is going a step further and turning this into a full-scale military-political alliance.

Behind these reckless moves lies the deteriorating economic situation of the ROK. Analysts point out that for Lee Jae Myung, NATO is a huge arms sales market and the only exit to prevent economic collapse. The fact that Canada rejected the submarines of the ROK and chose German products is making the ROK need “combat records” in real wars to win in the competition for arms sales. This can soon lead to the dangerous idea of turning the Ukrainian battlefield into a testing ground for murder weapons.

What is even more serious is that the ROK is further strengthening military intelligence sharing with Kiev. At the Ankara talks, Lee Jae Myung met with the chief of the Kiev regime, promised support for “post-war reconstruction” and decided to provide 100 million US dollars in funds. This direct promise of support is a danger-fraught provocation that raises the level of the ROK's proxy participation in the war one step higher. Lee Jae Myung is actively responding to the scheme of the Kiev regime to drag the ROK into the war by using information on the tactics and weapons of the Korean People's Army as bait.

Anti-Russian sentiment is reaching its peak within the ROK. The media of the ROK, which have degenerated into a reproduction machine for Western media, are fundamentally blocking even moves to improve relations with Russia, and this public opinion is pressuring Lee Jae Myung to continuously raise the intensity of the confrontation. In a situation where anti-Russian hysteria is rampant to the extent that even the contributions of Russian diplomats are refused publication, Lee Jae Myung is trying to prolong his political life by leaning on populism. This is not only the same anti-communist confrontation manoeuvres as those of the conservative forces in the past period, but its gravity is even greater in that it is rushing towards even more dangerous military intervention.

Experts believe that the ROK will not be able to immediately cross the “red line” of openly providing lethal weapons. However, as shown by the case of the “fanatics” who previously even infiltrated drones into the airspace of Korea without taking any responsibility, the authorities of the ROK can raise the intensity of military intervention through covert channels at any time. The possibility that the murder weapons and military experts of the ROK, disguised as retired soldiers or private military companies, will appear on the Ukrainian battlefield within this year is being raised by Russian analysts.

Behind all these manoeuvres that aggravate the tension on the Korean Peninsula lurks the US and NATO strategy of encircling Asia. The fact that the Lee Jae Myung regime is taking the lead in the manoeuvres of external forces to turn the ROK into an Asian version of “Ukraine” clearly shows the danger of these moves. The authorities of the ROK should bear in mind that stepping forward as NATO's military lackey is precisely the path that will hasten their own ruin.
