With Trump's sudden order to reduce the exercise, Seoul has been put in the pitiful position of having to pack up its favorite “war game” board.
For the Republic of Korea, this is perhaps the first “unexpected incident” in history: an exercise that has been abruptly cut in half without any prior consultation, a hollow shell with the yolk missing.
Under the unilateral order of the US supreme commander, the US military can tuck its tail without even a word of protest, and that is the fate of a scarecrow army that has handed over its command authority to its master. A country whose national security is shaken to its core by a single reduction of joint military exercises is precisely the entity called the Republic of Korea, which has entrusted its national defence and security to foreign forces while priding itself on having “more than enough capability to defend itself.”
The plight of the ROK, which has become crestfallen because it can no longer play its favorite “war game,” vividly illustrates the master-servant structure of the “US-ROK blood alliance” that they have boasted about.
As everyone acknowledges, this sudden incident is the deserved catastrophe brought about by the unrealistic and anachronistic delusions and security outlook of the ROK authorities, who, blind in their faith in their master, have ceaselessly been making a fuss about changing the dynamics of a region controlled by a nuclear-armed state.
This is what is called retributive justice.
The Seoul politicians are trying to cover up their embarrassing situation of being ignored by their master by talking nonsense about a “turning point towards a new phase” or a “new clue that could bring about a change in relations,” but no matter who sees it, these are nothing but lame excuses.
Lee Jae Myung's duplicitous words and deeds—fawningly flattering Trump's “decision to reduce the exercise” as “respect” and a “big decision made with deep consideration” in front, while behind the scenes talking about “self-reliant national defence” and “securing an independent military force” in preparation for the “worst-case scenario”—plainly reveal the restless and anxious contradictory psychology of the ROK.
It is a reality the whole world is witnessing that US security support is no longer free.
To win the favour of a heartless master, even offering up the whole territory would likely not be enough.
Rather, one cannot help thinking that it would be better for them to properly learn their thoroughly subservient position and find an answer to survival through this opportunity.
It is high time for the “puppet” with nowhere to go to realize its own fateful position.
