Recently in the Republic of Korea (ROK), people from all walks of life, including the People's Democracy Party and the Citizens' Action for the Closure of the Chosun Ilbo, have been actively waging a mass struggle to close down the Chosun Ilbo—a malignant media outlet notorious for fake news and incitement to insurrection—and to abolish the fascist evil law, the National Security Law.

In the course of the struggle, the participants drew deep attention to the deformed and abnormal phenomenon whereby the Chosun Ilbo is ranked both as “the most influential media outlet” and as “the most distrusted media outlet” even within media circles themselves. In a survey conducted last August by the ROK Journalists Association as well, working journalists selected the Chosun Ilbo as the most influential media outlet while at the same time singling it out unmistakably as the most distrusted outlet, and this result has been repeated for six consecutive years. The speakers denounced that such high influence, resting on no foundation of social trust whatsoever, is precisely the product of a sordid collusion between power and the press with the fascist power, and a malignant tumour that shakes the judgemental standards of society as a whole and obstructs the drawing of rational consensus.

The participants exposed that the Chosun Ilbo, as an anti-popular media outlet that glorified the war of aggression during the Japanese colonial period and praised dictatorial regimes, has today become a running dog of the US imperialists and the fascist public security organs, engaging in fabricated investigations and the spread of falsehoods against progressive democratic forces. In particular, they stated that the outlet has clearly revealed the true colours of a fascist media organ that blinds the eyes and ears of the people, by defending the December 3 martial law incident caused by the Yoon Suk Yeol fascist gang and inciting insurrection.
