Joint Seminar Held in Brazil on the Occasion of the 81st Founding Anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea

A joint seminar marking the 81st founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea was held in Brazil on the 10th by video link.

The seminar, under the theme “81 Years of the Workers' Party of Korea: Independence, Sovereignty and Socialism”, was attended by personages of parties, organizations and institutions including the Communist Party of Brazil, the Brazil-Korea Friendship Association, the Brazilian Centre for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples, and the Brazilian Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea.

Also taking part were personages of parties, organizations and Juche idea study organizations of various countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Türkiye, Romania, Belgium and the United Kingdom, and the head of the DPRK International Solidarity Group.

At the seminar, congratulatory messages sent by parties, organizations and personages of various countries were read out, and congratulatory speeches were delivered.

The Secretary-General of the Brazilian Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea, presiding over the seminar, pointed out the significance of the seminar in studying and disseminating the Juche idea, introducing and propagating the achievements of socialist construction in Korea, and strengthening international solidarity with the Korean people struggling to defend their sovereignty.

Discussions followed.

The discussants, including the Chairman of the Brazilian Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea and the Chairman of the Brazilian Centre for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples, mentioned the glorious course of the Workers' Party of Korea spanning dozens of years, the Party's leading role in socialist construction, and the importance of defending national sovereignty and strengthening international solidarity with the Korean people.

They discussed that the root of the Workers' Party of Korea is the Down-with-Imperialism Union founded by Comrade Kim Il Sung on October 17, 1926; that the Great Leader set forth an original revolutionary line proceeding from a resolute independent stand and firmly laid the organizational and ideological foundations of Party building amid the flames of the anti-Japanese struggle; and that after liberation he splendidly realized the cause of Party founding before that of state building and army building.

They said that under the leadership of the Workers' Party all the democratic reforms were successfully carried out in Korea and socialist transformations accomplished, and that in this process the Juche idea was comprehensively systematized and enriched in its development, firmly consolidating the ideological foundation of the Korean revolution.

They noted that the outstanding leadership of Comrade Kim Il Sung and Comrade Kim Jong Il was the fundamental factor enabling the Party to be strengthened and Korean-style socialism to advance vigorously without the slightest wavering amid the vicious sanctions and strangulation manoeuvres of the imperialists and the great political turmoil of the world, and explained the great significance of the historic Pyongyang Declaration proclaimed in April 1992.

They introduced, in connection with the people-oriented measures adopted recently, how our Party today holds the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un high at the forefront and guides the people along the path of comprehensive socialist development.

They stressed that the historical experience of the Workers' Party of Korea has demonstrated how important it is to consistently maintain the principle of independence and the socialist principle, and that the single-hearted unity of the whole society centred on the leader is the source of strength enabling Korea to smash the challenges of the hostile forces and achieve only victory.

The Crimes of the Past Cannot Be Covered Up by Anything

Recently the Japanese reactionaries have been busy feeding distorted and falsified historical materials into major international artificial intelligence data repositories. It is said that distorted outputs are being continuously generated as a result of these cunning acts.

Today, as moves to develop and introduce artificial intelligence technology are becoming more active worldwide, voices of concern are also rising that it may be abused to realize criminal purposes.

Nevertheless, the Japanese reactionaries are using cutting-edge technology even for the distortion of history. This is truly the height of shamelessness.

So far the Japanese reactionaries have regarded acknowledging the history of aggression as an “act of self-flagellation”, and have persistently distorted the truth and shifted all responsibility onto others. They have propagated that the Pacific War was not a war of aggression but “a war for self-defence” and “a war to liberate Asia”, and that such things as the issue of Japanese military sexual slavery were entirely fabricated. In particular, they have often clamoured that the Pacific War had as its purpose “the independence of Asian countries, economic development through cooperation among nations, and the abolition of racial discrimination”.

It is their claim that there is no country as “misunderstood” as Japan.

In their history textbooks, the aggressive acts of Japanese imperialism are described as “advance”, repression as “pacification”, plunder as “transfer”, and anti-Japanese movements as “riots”.

Crimes that invoke the wrath of heaven were greatly reduced long ago.

The Class-A war criminals who were the ringleaders of aggression and slaughter are praised as “patriots”, and visits to the Yasukuni Shrine are praised as “an expression of reverence for the spirits of the fallen who gave their lives for the country”.

Recently there has even come the absurd claim that the underlying cause of Japan's plunge into war in the past was “the situation in which it could not obtain resources such as food and energy owing to the encirclement by the great powers”. War, it is said, was an unavoidable choice made to break through that “encirclement”.

Interpreted this way, the conclusion follows that for Japan, which is chronically short of resources, war is essential.

In other words, it means that Japan has a justification for starting a war at any time. This is very similar to the “peripheral threat” theory that the Japanese authorities have constantly used to prove the justification for completing a war state.

Not content with that, the Japanese reactionaries even spread the claim that their country received unfair treatment after the war and is now severely threatened from outside.

The Japanese reactionaries are trying to mislead world public opinion by sweeping all these preposterous sophistries into artificial intelligence data repositories.

The purpose of Japan's stealing even science and technology to persistently deny the truth of its inhuman war crimes and cling to its manoeuvres to distort history lies nowhere else.

It is to prepare an environment favourable to overseas aggression by continuing to spread their shameless claims glorifying the crimes of the past to the international community and changing the perception of Japan as a war criminal state and an aggressor state.

But history does not change because of that. Japan's past crimes are inhuman crimes that admit of no argument and are subject to no statute of limitations.

The neighbouring countries are watching with sharp eyes the behaviour of the Japanese ruling forces, who, far from reflecting on and compensating for their huge war crimes, are desperately bent on repeating them.

It is only too natural that Japan, more than 80 years after its defeat, is still called by the people of the world an untrustworthy country and a dangerous country.

Reference to the Country's Priority Task

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the priority task of the Russian state today is to completely eliminate all threats generated by the consequences of the war that the West unleashed at the hands of the Ukrainians, and to defend the honour and dignity of the Russian people and of all those who share Russian culture, their right to use their native language and their faith.

He said this on the 20th at a meeting with university graduates assigned to the diplomatic sector.

He stated that Russia had repeatedly proposed to the West between 2008 and 2021 that agreement be reached on equal and indivisible security, but that all those proposals were rejected.

Referring to the special military operation being conducted by Russia, he stressed that all the goals and tasks of this operation will undoubtedly be achieved, and that it will stabilize the situation on the Eurasian continent and promote the formation of a multipolar world based on a balance of interests, international law and the United Nations Charter.

Manoeuvres of the European Union to Turn the Arctic into an Arena of Confrontation Condemned

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, at a press conference on the 20th, condemned the European Union's manoeuvres to turn the Arctic into an arena of antagonism and confrontation.

Not long ago, the EU foreign policy chief made the outrageous statement that the European Union is preparing to counter Russia and China in the Arctic.

In this regard, the Press Secretary stressed that Russia advocates making the Arctic not an arena of antagonism and confrontation but an arena of mutually beneficial cooperation among countries, and that this should be resolved through dialogue.

He denounced, however, that the West is closing the door to dialogue, and that the EU foreign policy chief has said more than once or twice that he opposes any dialogue concerning the Arctic.

Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States Held

The meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on the 19th and 20th.

The meeting was attended by the heads of government and representatives of the member states, including Russia, China and Kazakhstan.

The participants noted that in the 25 years since its founding the SCO has been continuously expanded and strengthened and its international influence has grown day by day, and stated that by strengthening communication and coordination and promoting the high-quality development of the organization it should make a greater contribution to regional and world peace and development.

The meeting discussed the issues of continuing to strengthen cooperation in such fields as the economy, trade, industry, energy, finance, investment, agriculture and cutting-edge technology.

At the conclusion of the meeting a joint communiqué was released and documents on multifaceted cooperation among the member states were adopted.

Israel's Attacks on Lebanon Condemned

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, on the 20th, while touring the southern region of Lebanon, condemned and branded as intolerable acts Israel's atrocities of attack on this country.

He said that the situation in the southern region of Lebanon is extremely serious, and exposed that the atrocities of the Israeli army—military attacks on residential areas, destruction, seizure of land and forced displacement—are making the living conditions of the local residents wretched. Saying that supporting Lebanon is the political will of the League of Arab States, he appealed to the Arab countries to take action to help Lebanon.

Israel's Increasingly Undisguised Acts of Territorial Seizure in Lebanon

In Lebanon the acts of territorial seizure by the Israeli aggressors are becoming ever more undisguised.

On the 20th the Israeli Defence Minister brazenly declared that since last March the Israeli army in southern Lebanon has destroyed more than 60 villages and 23,000 dwelling houses, occupied about 700 km² of territory and driven out 200,000 residents. He said that the areas they had occupied had become Israel's “security zone”, and blustered that the army would not be withdrawn from Lebanon until Hezbollah was disarmed.

The high-handed and shameless acts of territorial seizure by the Israeli Zionist restorationists, who brutally violate Lebanon's sovereignty and seek to ride roughshod over this country, are arousing the criticism and condemnation of the international community.
