The 80th founding anniversary of the mother university that opened the beginnings of training national cadres of our state, the parent base that has trained numerous backbone talents loyal to the Party and the revolution, and the supreme institution representing the intelligence and civilization of Korea is truly a great pride and auspicious event for the country.

On the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of the university, whose name and history are the most glorious, I first of all send warm congratulations to all the teachers and researchers who are devoting themselves wholeheartedly to their sacred duty on the sacred teaching platform.

This day 80 years ago was an eventful day that raised the precious mother institution for training national cadres with the birth of new democratic Korea, and a watershed in history that demonstrated the powerful spirit of Korea to confidently pioneer its own path with its life at stake for self-reliant prosperity.

The education of Korea took its first step in this way.

There are many universities in the world that pride themselves on long history and prestige, but there will be no university like KIM IL SUNG University that was founded on empty ground with the strength of the working people, remained faithful to those people for a long period, and trained countless excellent talents devoted to the construction of a true people's state.

KIM IL SUNG University is precisely the venerable supreme educational institution symbolizing our state and powerfully propelling its prosperity and development, and a merited prestigious institution that has trained the best talents proudly representing the wisdom and creative power of our people.

It started on the first path of nation-building with only 68 teachers and seven faculties with about 1,500 students, but its first step was greatly meaningful and proud thanks to the high aspirations and confidence of the Korean people.

On the historic journey linking years and generations, the university made significant contributions to national development.

With this very university as its mother, numerous universities were born and the framework of our education was formed, and over the past 80 years, its graduates, called by the times, have devoted themselves to the sacred performance of their duties as mid-level cadres in the Party and state leadership and in important sectors and lines, serving as loyal servants and faithful servants of the state.

Even today, the graduates of this university firmly occupy important positions in the country.

Facing this stern demand of the times and the expectations of the people, and at this important historic point of national development, the comprehensive university—not any other unit—must once again rise up in a new birth like a re-founding, just as it did when laying the foundations of education and science in its early days, and must lay a solid strategic track toward the future.

In recent years, the Party Central Committee set forth the line of building an educational power and a talent power, consistently maintained the position of giving priority to the development of education, issued a series of important decisions for the modernization of education and the building of an educational power, and powerfully guided the education sector to achieve historic successes and create a trend of change and development.

Our aim to build a world-class university is not to raise the university's prestige or imitate others' formulas, but to train more excellently the talent force that will truly contribute to the performance of our revolutionary cause and become a solid foundation for building mighty national power and the people's happy life.

Educational content and methods must be continuously changed in keeping with the flow of the times, but the true meaning of the founding and the instinct of the university must not change.

He stressed that the history the university has walked is a shining history of the great Workers' Party of Korea's Juche-oriented educational ideas and theories and outstanding leadership, and a glorious history embroidered by the burning patriotic loyalty of all the teaching staff, students and graduates who, with endless loyalty to the Party, devoted themselves to the victorious advance of the revolutionary cause and the prosperity of the fatherland.

He mentioned that the great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung put forward educational work and the work of training core cadres as the most important of national affairs related to the destiny of the country, and had the comprehensive university built first even amid the difficult and complicated situation after liberation.

He said that the university could proudly display itself as a model university for training revolutionary talent and open a brilliant prospect for the development of Juche-oriented science and education under the wise leadership and special care of the great Leader, who brightly illuminated the path ahead at every period and stage of the revolution and construction including the period of building a new fatherland and the fierce Fatherland Liberation War, and led the university step by step to train numerous excellent core cadres required by the Party and the revolution.

He mentioned that the great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il always paid deep attention to the university's work and wisely led the university to excellently fulfil its mission and duty before the times and the revolution.

He stressed that the affectionate image of the great General, who ascended the ridge of Ryongnamsan early on and steeled his historic oath to glorify Korea, energetically guided the university to thoroughly establish Juche in its educational work, and devoted great painstaking efforts and labours to transforming the university into a revolutionary university cherishing loyalty to the Leader as its first life and into the supreme temple of Juche-oriented science and education equipped with world-class educational conditions and environment, is warmly cherished in the hearts of the university's teaching staff, students, graduates and people.

The reporter said that as the great programme of valuing education and talents unfolded with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un held in high esteem, a new turn took place in the educational and scientific work of Kim Il Sung University in the new era of the Juche revolution and the university's honour came to be displayed even higher.

He stressed that the historic letter “On the Basic Mission of Kim Il Sung University in the New Era of the Juche Revolution” sent by the respected General Secretary to the teaching staff and students on the occasion of the university's 70th founding anniversary becomes a precious guideline enabling the university to fulfil its mission and duty before the times and the revolution with a clear development strategy.

He mentioned that the respected General Secretary also took revolutionary measures to complete the university's educational system and innovate educational content, methods and teaching management so as to satisfactorily train excellent revolutionary talents who would shoulder the prosperity and development of the country.

He said that under the great trust and love of the respected General Secretary, who also set forth the task of solving theoretical, practical, scientific and technological problems arising in opening the new era of transformation and called the teachers and researchers to important research projects, the educators and scientists of the university could achieve remarkable successes in educational work and scientific research by exerting themselves with loyalty and patriotic passion.

He stressed that there are not a few prestigious universities in the world boasting long history and tradition, but there is no revolutionary university or sacred great hall like Kim Il Sung University, which was born and grew strong in the embrace of the peerless great men revered by all people, which is glorious with the name of the great Leader, and in which the outstanding ideas and leadership, noble trust and love of the Leader are warmly reflected in the entire history of the university and everywhere on the campus.

The reporter said that Kim Il Sung University must always fulfil its pioneering role, upholding the noble intention of the Party to make our education the highest education that everyone envies and wants to receive, and a world-class education that powerfully propels the prosperity of the fatherland.

He mentioned that both the core cadres who faithfully uphold the revolutionary cause of the Workers' Party of Korea at the very forefront and the cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements contributing to the strengthening of the country's national power must come from Kim Il Sung University, and that all officials, teaching staff and students must more thoroughly establish the Party Central Committee's monolithic leadership system and establish a revolutionary discipline of conducting the overall university work only according to the Party's ideas and intentions.

He pointed out that the educational level of political and ideological subjects must be continuously improved to train students into genuine revolutionaries with only Juche-type red blood flowing from head to toe, and that the entire course of teaching and upbringing must become a process of spiritual arming that engraves the Party Central Committee's will and intention, and that daily life must also become a process of ideological training, will training and character cultivation that equips them with loyalty to the Party and the revolution, noble patriotism and lofty personality.

International Scientific Symposium Held to Mark the 80th Founding Anniversary of KIM IL SUNG University

An international scientific symposium marking the 80th founding anniversary of Kim Il Sung University was held in Pyongyang.

The opening ceremony of the symposium took place at Kim Il Sung University on September 29.

Comrade Ri Yong Chol, Minister of Education of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, officials, teachers and researchers of Kim Il Sung University, and delegations and representatives of universities, scientific research institutions and organizations of various countries including the Russian delegation headed by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and the delegation of Chongryon Korea University took part in the opening ceremony.

Members of the diplomatic corps in our country were invited.

Comrade Kim Sung Chan, President of Kim Il Sung University, made the opening speech.

He expressed thanks to the friendly friends who visited our country to significantly celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of Kim Il Sung University, and mentioned that the university, under the meticulous love and care of the peerless great men, has engraved a glorious history and been strengthened and developed into a venerable talent-training base and the supreme temple of Juche-oriented science and education.

He declared the opening of the symposium, saying that this symposium would deepen the bonds of friendship between Kim Il Sung University and universities and research institutions of various countries of the world and contribute to the development of science and education and social progress.

Comrade Ri Yong Chol, Minister of Education, made a congratulatory speech.

He said that the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the Republic have put forward the valuing of science and technology and the valuing of education as consistent policies, and mentioned that the historic 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea clearly set forth scientific struggle goals and practical programmes for raising the country's overall science and technology to the world's cutting-edge level and making our country a country that values education first and has the most developed education.

He expressed the conviction that the symposium would become an important occasion for mutually sharing and learning the achievements made in scientific research work and vitalizing exchanges and cooperation between universities.

Then there were congratulatory remarks by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Tishunin, President of Novosibirsk State University of Russia, and Fang Fang, Vice-President of Peking University of China.

The speakers congratulated on the 80th founding anniversary of Kim Il Sung University and mentioned that under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, the university has adhered to the socialist educational line and produced numerous excellent talents, contributing to the development of the country.

They said they would actively contribute to the development of friendly relations between countries by strengthening substantive cooperation in the fields of education and science and technology, and wished the symposium success.

The symposium, held under the theme “Development of Science and Education and Social Progress”, was divided into sections of social and political science, economics, language and literature, mathematics and physics, biology and environmental protection, chemistry and materials science, and information technology and automation engineering.

In the papers such as “It is the unchanging position of our Party to ensure regional and world peace and security and actively promote the building of a multipolar world aspiring to independence and justice”, “The self-defensive strength reinforcement and mutual unity of the anti-imperialist independent countries are the fundamental guarantee for building a new peaceful world”, “The exemplary significance of DPRK-China friendship”, “The liberation of Korea and the Soviet Union”, “Important issues arising in promoting the development of foreign economic relations with friendly and amicable countries”, “On practical cooperation opportunities and prospects between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the new era”, “On structural changes of Korean idioms from the perspective of usage”, “Terahertz quantum cascade lasers”, “Regularity of half-groups generated by relaxed fractional Laplaceans”, “Applicability of carbon footprint as an indicator for food environment certification”, “Design of cutting-edge energy materials for sustainable development”, and “Structural control and luminescence characteristics of spinel near-infrared long-persistent luminescent materials”, the discussants deeply explained the academic achievements made in research work in various fields of social and natural sciences.

The symposium closed on September 30.

At the closing ceremony, a letter to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un from the participants in the international scientific symposium was adopted amid the enthusiastic applause of the participants.

Kim Il Sung University hosted a banquet that evening at the Okryu Restaurant for the participants in the international scientific symposium.

During the symposium, agreements and letters of understanding on exchange and cooperation between Kim Il Sung University and universities of Russia, China and Belarus were signed.
